INTEL AND DENIAL
"HEY, GUYS WAIT up!" I jogged after Eliza and Bonzo, causing the two to turn and wait for my hurrying figure. Eliza let out a chuckle as I finally stopped next to them.
"What's with the rush, C?" she questioned, but I didn't say anything for a moment as I was trying to think of how to word my dilemma. "Wolf got your tongue?" I sent a small glare at the zombie, only causing her to laugh.
"Ha, very funny," I sighed. "Look, I know it might sound weird, but one of my pack's elders, Ada, had a vision...there's something supernatural coming to Seabrook. We don't know why or who they are. So, I wanted to see if you knew anything that could give me a possible lead." I reached into my pocket and produced the special stone Ada had given me for this purpose. I wasn't exactly a master at fortune telling like she was, so she instilled the vision in a stone from the den. "Take a look." I handed her the rock, letting her examine it.
Eliza cupped her palms around the object, letting her see the images better. I gave the girl a few moments before she passed it to Bonzo and let him look it over.
"That is—that's intense." Her brows furrowed as a thoughtful look overtook her features. "Wait, what color were their eyes?"
"Bluzga," Bonzo confirmed, handing the stone back to me.
"Like yours. Coraline, what if they're wolves?"
I shook my head. "They could be werewolves, but I already know what you're thinking. They can't be my pack, I-I was the only one that survived the hunters. Besides, there were probably more packs than mine with blue eyes."
"Well, what'd you need from us? I mean, you know we've always got your back, but where do we play into this?" Eliza crossed her arms over her chest and waited for me to respond.
"Wyatt said that maybe them coming here has something to do with the zombies? Y'know, maybe they're after an artifact or power source? Hell, even a certain person?" I proposed the theories. "C'mon, guys. Anything can help here."
Eliza shrugged sadly. "There's nothing that's immediately coming to mind. We could check the zombie archives at the library, call you if we find something?"
"Thank you," I said, pulling the two into a hug. "You have no idea how much this means to me." A small ding from my phone caused me to pull the device from my pocket and glance at the notification. "I have to get back to the den, but if you guys need anything, let me know."
☽
My fangs were bared at my opponent. I had been sparring the other wolves for the last few hours, giving pointers and teaching better tactics as I went along.
When I was younger, at my old pack, I used to watch the wolves train everyday. They'd help me learn a few things here and there since they knew I was intrigued, which helped me teach my pack now. The old pack had to be prepared all the time since there were so many threats where we lived, but here—it was Seabrook. Nothing bad ever happened, so these wolves barely trained.
Willa had been a huge help, the girl was a natural fighter. I even consulted her sometimes when I was unsure of something I was teaching the pack, asking for her opinion and whether it'd be a good tactic. At first, I went to Wyatt about it, but he was unsure. The boy would rather talk something out rather than fight, which was something I'd always admired about him.
