I stepped inside the classroom smiling brigthly: a nother year. I took a deep breath: ah yes. The smell of notebooks with a little tingle of the summer fun still hanging in the air. Of the memories gained and the excitement of new ones promised. I adored this time of the year. Everyone so vivacious and full of new stories to tell. I wish life could stop here in this moment. Just linger here till the end of time (if there was such) and let us savour all of it.
'Clemi! Gonna keep standing there for longer sniffing around like a newborn pup?'
I opened my eyes grinning and found myself infront of my bestest of best friends.
'Leila!' I squeled excitedly. Just like a newborn puppy, I sallied forth enveloping her in a big hug pulling her as close to me as I possibly could manage, breathing in her strawberry scent which was like home to me.
'Happy to see you two all romantic but I would like to enjoy that warm welcome of yours, Clem' It was Hestia. She was standing behind Leila having her hands in the pockets of her black denim jacket smiling mischievously. I let go of Leila and went over to embrace her, kissing her on the cheeks as I did so. After a while she let go of me and smiling fully with her perfect white teeth she took my bag and led me to our 'designated' seats in the classroom.
'Now my Darling, tell us everything'
I could finally be alone a little in french class. I loved both Leila and Hestia, but I had found it difficult talking about my summer. I mean I did like him. A lot. I just wasn't sure if it was that serious and I was desperate to not make a fool of myself, telling everyone when it may have been just a summer fling. Plus he wasn't as I imagined him to be. He was more like the guy I would expect Hestia to walk around with, not me. But I mean all of what happened in summer couldn't be just a stupid teen romance, could it?
I was deep in thought when the door to our classroom opened and a tall boy with messy honey brown hair walked in. He was wearing an enormous hoodie that matched the deep brown of his eyes. He slowly approached the teacher not daring to look around. I mean I understood him. Coming into a room with people who knew and trusted each other. I would love to say that all eyes were on him but nobody seemed to notice our new classmate. He said something to Mr. Hammonds who looked quite taken aback by the arrival of the boy. Then, after a couple of hushed sentences, I assume explaining the situation, Mr. Hammonds nodded and carelessly waved him off. The boy finally looked up. I smiled at him encouragingly which seemed to ease his tension. He passed by me as he strode down the row looking for a free spot. What he probably deliberately didn't notice is that there was one right next to me. This is what I hated: a lot of people mistook my kindness for being either fake or hitting on them. Most of the times this wasn't the case but trying to clarify it would have made me even more unsympathetic and weird. Fortunately I don't get offended by this kind of behavior anymore, so I erased the mysterious boy from my mind as I listened to the myth of Cupid and Psyche.
'Clem! Fancy a drink?' Hestia asked her as they were leaving the school to go to Leila's car.
'But it's Monday?!' After years of knowing her I still wasn't used to her audacious ideas. She groaned.
'When are you going to let yourself relax and finally enjoy your teen years? They will be over in a second.' she snapped her long delicate fingers infront of my eyes trying to emphasize the shortness of time. I chuckled at her exaggeration of our problem.
'I am relaxed and happy! I planted some forget-me-not seeds so in a couple of weeks hopefully I will be a content mummy of tiny baby flowers.'
'And we will be the supportive aunts of those kids, won't we Hestia?' Leila demanded stopping Hestia as if it were an interrogation of some sort. I turned to them excitedly nodding and trying hard to suppress a laugh that was about to erupt.
Hestia shook her head in disbelief, laughing. 'You guys are idiots you know that right?'
'But you are one of us, Love'
