I gotta ask myself again: Was this the right choice? I wouldn't let anything get in the way of me doing my job... but things have changed.

It looks like we were both used in our lives, Kuchel. Both good and bad. No wonder you kept that child and dragged me into this.

Had I not made the decision to serve the king, I wouldn't have known Uri. What would he say? Would he be disappointed?

Rod Reiss instead, is on another level. That scoundrel is a blot in the Reiss family, he doesn't give a damn about his daughter Historia. He just wants her to clean up the mess for him.

Even though I ain't any better than him, it really gets me that he knew it all this time but kept me in the dark...

...that the only ones who are able to use the power of the founding titan are those within a royal bloodline.

The few hours of sleep Levi was used to had taken a heavy toll on his body as he now witnessed. After sleeping like a log for the first time in years, on awakening, it felt like a plague had been cast upon him. Levi's steel-grey eyes fluttered open and he blinked them drowsily, waiting for his gaze to adjust to the sudden amount of light. Forms, colours, and figures in his field of vision came and went, appearing blurry at times as like a camera lens before coming into focus. "Kenny, what the..." he mumbled and let out a groan. "Where... am I?"

To his dismay, he saw Kenny the Ripper sitting stiffly on a wooden stool right next to his upholstered bed. Their eyes locked on like magnets, Kenny's blue-rimmed eyes, and his. The man was dressed in a white shirt, an informal vest sombre in colour and matching pants, he was missing his cowboy hat with which he usually had his shoulder-length, slicked-back hazel hair covered. The stark, angular, and wrinkly mug of his was solely sufficient to whip Levi in cream of bitter memories before being snatched back into reality.

"In my house," Kenny replied neutrally as if Levi being in his fine shack was a habitual commonplace between two caring people. Levi's body tensed. "So ya're finally awake?"

Levi's quick gaze darted back and forth, eyeing the surroundings. He wanted to go through the small, musty place like a dose of salts and scrub it from top to bottom. Those dust bunnies sitting idly in the corners were downright mocking him. The bedroom was bare of embellishments having only a few pieces of simple furniture to fill their utility role including a bland chair, table, wardrobe, mirror, and the bed he was lying on. All made of reddish wood, scuffed and aged. Beside his bed hung a window that overlooked the illuminated view of the Underground City. Lamps were placed haphazardly, floating in the darkness like lanterns and casting murky shadows on the crumbled facades of the buildings. With them provoking a great deal of thought, Levi saw flashbacks to the gruesome past of his, all fresh and raw in his memory like he never left this place. Does Kenny still have a house in this dump or is he in hiding?
