Brownstar's tail drooped and he suddenly looked so old and weak. "What will I do without you, my brother?" he whispered.
As it was still early, Brownstar gently dragged Grayclaw's body to a shady spot. The leader looked too upset to appoint another deputy.
"What about the patrols for the day? Border and hunting patrols can't be neglected!" Fireclaw exclaimed.
They all turned to Specklebreeze, who was the most senior warrior. She shrugged. "I don't know how to."
"So who's going to settle the patrols?" he grumbled. The clan all felt confused and worried.
Stagwind walked towards Brownstar and whispered a few words at his ear. He dismissed her, much to the clan's disappointment.
"Can I try?" Frostleaf asked nervously. She had usually seen Grayclaw organising patrols enough to know a bit. "You have only became a warrior quite recently," Dustfur snorted. "You can't handle the duties of a deputy, even if it's for now."
"Not that you can do better," Appleshade retorted angrily. "Stop arguing!" Stagwind yowled. "Frostleaf is doing it only temporarily."
That silenced the clan. Frostleaf felt embarrassed as she felt the stares of her clanmates. At first she felt lost but then a voice spoke clearly in her mind, Hunting patrol, Sparrowshadow lead, with Timberpaw, Grassheart and Dewpaw.
"Sparrowshadow, lead a hunting patrol at Tallpines with Grassheart, Timberpaw and Dewpaw. Hunting should help distract Dewpaw from her grief, " she mewed, feeling more confident with each word.
The she-cat nodded without questioning her and rounded up the cats in her patrol. Slowly, Frostleaf managed to settle the patrols.
"Wow, I can't believe I did that," she commented to Goldenfeather who was grooming her kits.
"Thank Starclan for helping you then," she smiled. Frostleaf turned around and saw Brownstar looking at her with a glimmer of pride.
She took a nice piece of freshkill for Goldenfeather when a ragged cat pounced into the camp.
"Rogues are attacking the camp!" she yowled in warning. The remaining cats immediately lined up in a defensive formation to protect the kits.
Brownstar became alert as he sprang at the invaders. Frostleaf pounced too, onto a cat that stank of ShadowClan. "Frogtail?" she growled. "What are you doing?"
He swiped at her and yowled, "I will never forget what ThunderClan did to my mother!" He clawed at her mercilessly, his eyes hungry for battle.
Frogtail wasn't the only one. At the corner of her eye, she saw Whitestripe and Deerfoot fighting too.
She gave a huge blow on Frogtail's flank and he fell. She followed Brownstar, Silverpaw and Longdrop to chase away the rogues near the entrance.
Silverpaw went in another direction to chase the rogues attempting to get back in the camp. Frostleaf joined her, swiping at any of the rogues' pelt.
"Thanks," Silverpaw gasped, out of breath. Frostleaf nodded. Suddenly, he heard a furious yowl.
She ran towards the direction Brownstar and Longdrop took. Silverpaw went to search in camp.
When she saw the pair, she felt fury rising up. "I knew it! You are the traitor!" she growled.
Longdrop laughed evilly. "Don't be such a fool. Who doesn't want to be leader? ThunderClan needs a better leader, younger and stronger other than Brownstar! He's just an elder growing older and older."
Brownstar was bleeding heavily from a huge wound on his belly. His eyes were glazed with knowledge of a traitor in ThunderClan.
"Why are you doing this?" she snarled. "Thses are your clanmates! You have taken a vow to protect them and obey the warrior code!"
"The warrior code is nothing but dirt to me!" he spat. "All my life is about following orders. I want it to stop. I want to be the one ordering the other cats."
"Then," Frostleaf growled. "Why did you join ThunderClan?" Longdrop laughed. "Don't you get it? I followed orders, that's why. But now I can use it to my advantage, to take over all the clans!"
"Who ordered you join?" Frostleaf asked. "And don't you have any loyalty at all? You lived in ThunderClan for most of your life."
"I have no loyalty to anyone," he snarled. "Not to any leader or kin." Frostleaf gave him an angry glare but when she was about to pounce, a voice spoke, "What?"
A flame coloured she-cat walked out of the bushes, bristling with fury. When Frostleaf looked at the she-cat, she felt that she recognised for moons.
"I get it now," Frostleaf whispered. She had more kin than she realised, and all the cats in front of her was her kin.
The flame coloured she-cat was none other than Flamenose, Longdrop's mother, and her step mother.

A/N: Suspenseful right? Now, everybody get it now? The she-cat in the prologue is Flamenose, and she was talking to her unborned kit, which ya, is a traitor. More shocking-ish info next chapter!
