The two of them just stared at each other in silence, to shocked to speak. Then it hit Germany. He had done it, he knew that that was it. He had just severed their friendship for good, and there was no chance for him now. He should have just trusted his gut in the first place, and never called Prussia because now he was going to pay the price. His heart was crushed because he knew that Italy's friendship was the price, and it was all because he had been stupid, and acted on impulse.

"West? Hey, West, are you still there?" His brother's words snapped him out of his thoughts.

Now brought back into reality with Italy still standing in the doorway with wide eyes, he panicked, and hung up the phone. Maybe, he could talk himself out of this, he thought to himself desperately.

"Italy, it's not... I mean I don't..." Germany never panicked, but he was now, and he couldn't find any of the words he was looking for. "Italy, I-"

"Doitsu, do you really feel that way?" Italy asked, cutting Germany off.

Germany didn't think he could really deny it at this point. Germany took a deep breath.

"Yes, Italy. I do."

Germany shut his eyes tight. He tried to mentally prepare himself for the rejection that was inevitably about to come, but he failed. Nothing would make this any less heart breaking. Oddly enough, though, he didn't hear Italy say anything at all. All he heard were... footsteps running toward him? He managed to open his eyes before he was tackled to the ground.

"Really?! Ve~ that makes me so happy!" Italy started laughing gleefully, his arms wrapped around Germany's neck.

Germany was having a hard time comprehending what had just happened. It felt like a dream. That couldn't have actually just happened, could it?

"I was starting to get worried there, Doitsu. Because of that whole no-hugging thing I thought that you hated me or something, and I was scared." Italy looked up at Germany with soft, caramel eyes, and a huge smile. He then got a more serious look in his eyes.

"I was scared." He said again with a soft voice. "I thought that you had gotten tired of me, and didn't want me around anymore," His smiled returned. "but after hearing what you said on the phone, I know I have nothing to worry about, and I'm glad you feel the same way." He hugged Germany tighter, and burrired his face in Germany's chest.

Feel the same way? Feel the same way?!

"Italy? Are you saying that you...?" Germany spoke barely above a whisper, still having trouble fathoming what was happening.

"Of course, Doitsu. I thought you already kind of knew."

"Huh?" Germany was completely dumbfounded by that statement.

"W-what?! You mean you didn't know?! I thought everyone kind of knew." He looked down, his face now turning a bright red.

Everyone did kind of know, EXCEPT Germany. Practically everyone who came in contact with the two would immediately see how much Italy clung to Germany, and how much he adored him. Germany was just so concentrated with keeping his feelings to himself that he missed the signs that Italy might've felt the same! Germany couldn't believe it! Had he really been that oblivious?

"But what about Holy Rome?" Germany blurted. He mentally smacked himself. He hoped he hadn't just ruined everything. He was just so taken aback by everything that was happening, that his mind was clouded.

Italy sighed. "Doitsu, I had thought for the longest time that one day he would come back to me, but its been so many years, and its time I stopped kidding myself. He's never coming back."

"Italy..." The pain was visible in Italy's eyes, and it broke Germany's heart to see him like this.

"But, I know that Holy Rome would want me to be happy anyway, and I am happy. When I'm with you, Doitsu. So, I know I'm ready to move on." He smiled up at Germany.

Germany couldn't help but smile back. All this time he had been scared of how Italy would react to his feelings, but now he knew he never had anything to worry about. He normally would have been angry with himself for missing the obvious signs, but at the moment he was to happy to be angry. In fact, he couldn't remember the last time he was so happy. There might not have even been such a time.

He cupped Italy's face in his hands, and stared deep into his eyes. "Ich liebe dich, Italien."

"Ti amo, Germania." Italy replied softly.

"Um, c-can I?" Germany asked, his face turning a light shade of red.

"You don't even have to ask." Italy closed the gap between them, pressing his lips against Germany's.

Kissing Italy felt like heaven. He had wanted this for so long now, it felt surreal. They stayed that way for a while. They broke apart breathlessly, but didn't stay apart to long before starting again. Even when they were done kissing, they stayed there for a long time holding onto each other. Content smiles on both their faces, and as Germany held the love of his life in his arms, a wave of relief washed over him. Relief that his feelings weren't hidden from Italy anymore.

End.
