          Epic poem "Master Thaddeus, or the Last Foray in Lithuania: A Nobility's Tale of the Years 1811–1812, in Twelve Books of Verse", written by famous Polish poet and prose writer Adam Mickiewicz, is full of various portrayals of nature; Mickiewicz describes world in a very detalied way, trying to show the beauty of Lithuanian forests, meadows, orchards, fields and nobles' mansions.

           In the invocation Mickiewicz writes about how much he misses the beauty of Lithuania:

"O Lithuania, my homeland! thou art like health;
Only he can truly appreciate thy worth
Who has lost thee. Now I see and sing thy beauty
In all of its glory, because I long for thee."

                                                              (translation by Christopher Kasparek )

           Adam Mickiewicz, like many other Polish nobles, emigrated to Paris during times of romanticism, not long after third partition of Poland, when Polish and Lithuanian culture was perishing due to russification. Mickiewicz, by writing his poems, tried to remind Poles of their homeland and showed the importance of maintaining Polish traditions, language, folklore and customs.
