she denies it, but the truth is, she's falling in love with himTHE NEXT DAY, Maddie came to a decision; it was time for her to get a small break from Forks too, just like Bella was. Although it was going to hurt to be away from her father and pack, it was a much needed break. Plus, Dean is alive and Sam is back in her in life, and she wants to spend some time with them before going in the next chapter of her life.
But, before Dean and Sam were to pick her up, the redhead decided to spend the day mostly with Paul. She started out with having breakfast with Charlie had a small restaurant before he had to go to work, and then made her way to Emily's house to spend a few hours with the pack.
They had sat around a fire, making s'mores and grilling out, telling stories, Seth had tried to pull a prank on Maddie but the girl caught him just in time and chased him around. It was all fun and games, really.
And then as the sun began to set, Paul led Maddie into the woods where they walked around for a few hours, just basking in each other's presence. They ended up holding hands at once point, which made both of their hearts to skip a beat as electricity flew through them.
"I don't like the thought of you being away from me... from us for too long," he quietly admitted, sighing when he noticed the small glare in his direction. "It's not that I don't think you can protect yourself, it's more to the with the fact that I've gotten used to you being around, and I will miss you too much if you're gone. And plus... the imprint makes it a little harsh on the imprinter when their imprintee is miles away."
She just stared at him, blinking once. "There is just so much I don't understand about this whole imprint thing. Is there like a book on it that I can read?"
"Actually... yes." He nodded, brows furrowed in thought. "I think Sam has it somewhere seeing as he's the alpha and all..." he saw her thoughtful look and pulled her into his arms. His hands slowly made their way around her waist, fingers lightly digging into her lower back, his chin moving to rest on the top of her head. "I know it's difficult; this whole soulmate thing. But, I promise you it's not dangerous. It's just... unethical in a lot of senses. But, it's the universes way of putting two people that are pieces of a puzzle together. That's all."
She laid her right cheek against his chest where his heart is. "That's the first time you explained it as soulmates. I mean... I figured. But—" she furrowed her brows, her arms moving to wrap around his waist, fingers gripping his shirt. She grinned as she tightened her fingers on the very thin material; he usually never wears a shirt. "It's still hard to wrap my head around that the universe has done nothing good for me... and now it's throwing a hotheaded shapeshifter in my path who is also my perfect match. I don't know, it just sounds..."
"Crazy," he finished, humming in agreement. "Trust me, I know. I was freshly sixteen when I first turned, and I was so scared and confused even though Sam and Billy was there to help me out. And then when they told me that we have a soulmate out there in the world, I didn't want to believe. I kept thinking; who in their right mind would be a soulmate to me? To me. Because let's face the facts; I'm not the greatest company. Like you said, I'm a hothead, sometimes I think without thinking. And I have the tendency to do the wrong thing, say the wrong thing. And I have this huge fear that one day, you'll see me as who I really am, and break the imprint, and run away from me." He frowned in thought.
Maddie pulled back a little to look him in the face. He was avoiding her eyes; she grabbed his face gently sigh her soft delicate long fingers, and tilted his head down so they were eye to eye. "Paul..." she licked her lips, watching as his eyes moved to track the movement. Her heart stuttered in her chest, her cheeks began to heat up. She ignored those reactions, and said, "you might be a hothead, yeah, but that doesn't make you a bad person. I'm going to repeat what you keep saying to me; you are not a monster, you are not a screwup, you are not an abomination. Okay?"
He slowly made eye contact with her again, his eyes watering.
She nodded and smiled encouragingly at him. "At first, I didn't like you. It was obvious, so I'm not going to deny it. You almost hurt my sister, you reacted badly. Although, we weren't much help, I can also admit that. But, you're not a monster for reacting badly sometimes. Paul... you're sweet, compassionate, funny, and yeah, sometimes stupid." They both lightly chuckled at that. "If I have to keep repeating those words, I will. I promise you that, wolfy."
Paul slowly moved forward, resting his forehead against hers. "Thank you," he whispered.
She hummed, moving one hand up to weave through his short hair, lightly scratching his scalp. "Anytime."
He licked his lips and swallowed thickly, wanting to kiss her. Actually, he wanted to do more than kiss her. He wanted to push her against one of the trees and ravish her, show her how much he appreciated her words. He wants to show her how much he... loves her.
But instead, he opened his mouth, and said, "we should get back. Sam and Dean will be here shortly to pick you up, remember?"
She nodded and slowly pulled away from him, interlocking their hands, and walking back towards Emily's house.
