7 MONTHS AZ - AFTER BLACK SUMMER

I've gone numb. At this point, I don't even remember what it feels like to have someone. You know? A partner in crime, someone who saves your ass. It's been two months since my last interaction with someone. Someone who was alive, anyway. My brother. I'd give you the whole story, but every time I think of him all I can do is try to focus on is his face. It's so blurry. And considering my memory pre-z, I can't say I'm proud of myself, for my own brother's face to fade away like that. I had the best memory out of all my family members. And when I say the best, that's not an exaggeration. I would be the one to remind my grandma that her pasta was cooking, or my dad that he had left his car keys on the work desk. I remembered every small detail of every single event, no matter the importance. But now, it's like every memory is just disappearing. Each day they roam further and further away, and every time I try to think of them I get blocked by a wall. My brain just lets go. I don't even remember what my own room looks like, except for the cringey Justin Bieber poster hung in the left corner.

My current setup is basic, but it's home. The least I can say is I'm in a better position now than I was during Black Summer. I get chills thinking about the chaos back then. Limited food, water, weapons, and zombies that were almost impossible to kill. Fast, too. Run into a horde of those crazy things and you're dead. I've heard theories going around that zombies are less hostile now, easier to escape. Some type of starvation mutation I assume. Luckily, there aren't many around where I am. Out of all the wrecked and damaged places I've seen in the apocalypse, the beach is by far the most normal. It's refreshing to wake up to something other than the smell of rotting corpses. I'm used to waking up by myself now, although I wish I didn't have to. A girl can dream? Yeah, I'm that girl. Or at least until this morning I was.
