Doo Wop-Dee Doo!

My sister Margot didn't go out much. She had been going steady with our neighbor Josh or to me Joshy. Josh and I had always been friends but he was in love with Margot. And Margot, was head over heels in love with him. She never wore her hair short and curly (the way he liked it) before him. How wonderful it would be to go steady with a boy. I wished I had gone out with Josh at least once, just to see what it felt like. I'm Lara Jean Song Covey. Covey like "lovey" not cove. I wish Mommy were still alive, she could give me advice on things like boys, dating, how I should wear my hair, poodle skirts or plaid, and the most important: sex. Admittedly, I'm a bit of a hopeless romantic. I also love to keep things, silly things like porcelain lambs and many poofy petticoats. But I also keep special things like gifts from my mother, her Korean hanbok, her heart locket, and the most prized possession: a teal hatbox. You would think I keep soft woolen berets, or pins, or even jewelry in my hatbox but, no. I keep love letters. Not from anyone, but from me to all five of the boys I've loved before. My letters convey my deepest feelings and help me get over my all-consuming crush. In my whole sixteen years of living I've been in love with five special boys. Kenny from church camp, John Ambrose McClaren from middle school, Angel-faced Lucas from my freshman homecoming, Josh Sanderson, the boy that wanted to marry my sister, and Peter Kavinsky, my first crush and my ex-best friends boyfriend.

My youngest sister Kitty, or Katherine by birth, was being an especial pest this afternoon. I was baking a strawberry white chocolate cake, and she kept sneaking globs of frosting.
"Kitty, there will be none left if you keep gobbling it up"?
"Ugh Lara Jean you don't need to be such a wet rag" she mimicked as she skipped off to go watch the brand new television. The tv was something else and Kitty was very entranced by it. Not many homes had one but Daddy could afford it. Daddy is a doctor and makes quite a lot of money but we're a very humble family. I don't really enjoy the TV, I much prefer listening to Doo-Wop, and the latest Motown girl group songs. I also love baking, scrapbooking, and dressing up. Today I have on an adorable, creamy, white blouse with a light pink and white plaid skirt. And of course I had my all-white saddle shoes on and my dainty, lacey white socks. I was rather small, just barely 5'1". I am half Asian half white. Mommy was Korean and Daddy is white. I look more Korean though. I have full, almond eyes, dark hair, and perfectly clear fair skin. This makes it a bit hard to fit in at school with the gorgeous blondes. I'm very studious though do my teachers like me. When I'm in college I'll bet I'll major in home-economics!
