Olivia's POV
"Spence, it's been a half hour now. Just tell me what I can do to help and I will."
He's been laying with his head in my lap and clutching his arm for about 30 minutes. My heart is hurting with him. I thought I was the only one who was gonna need holding tonight.
"Thanks for the Tylenol Liv, I just needed the pain to subside... also thanks for cleaning up my mess. I- I'm just in shock."
I am too. Football is a big part of you.
"It's never a problem, can I please call Grace?"
He nodded yes and I quickly called his mom, she'd know what to do next.
It took all of 10 minutes before Ms.James & Dylan were outside honking the horn.
"We're going to the hospital NOW!"
I quickly got my keys and slid on some comfy shoes, then we were out the door and on our way.
He remained silent the whole car ride, just looking out of the window.
There wasn't a thing I could say right now to make his pain go away. I just slowly snaked my hand closer and closer, until my fingers were intertwined with his.
He turned my direction and gave a slight smile followed by a hand squeeze before looking outside the car window again.
Damn Liv you were just about to go away for a summer with your ex boyfriend on a yacht just a few days ago, now you're in the backseat of a car holding hands with another guy. Get it together. Ugh.
Stop.
*Incoming Call: Leslie*
*Decline.*
Right now isn't about me, I can deal with whatever I am feeling another day.

Spencer's POV
It felt like everyone around me was moving fast, but I'm so in my head it felt like I was at a stand still.
I am back sitting in this hospital in this dumb gown.
Again.
After a while, the doctor who has been working on my case entered through the doorway with a sorry look in her eyes.
I couldn't even put a brave face on, tears were filling the brim of my eyes.
"Spencer, the body is a tricky thing-
No bullshit, I need facts and assurance not pity right now.
"Will I be able to play in the fall or not?"
She sighed.
"I cannot guarantee that at this moment-"
Now my mom chimed in.
"What do you mean you cannot? He was cleared just this morning??"
"Ms. James.. Spencer, it seems that due to the intensity of your fall at the Jamboree games has classified your nerve injury as now being third degree instead of second."
I looked over to Olivia for comfort, she just walked to my side and grabbed my hand.
"Third degree? What does that mean doc?"
"Well, the newfound residual nerve damage can be helped if we manually
guide it to nerve innervation, or to repair during surgery. Even then, we are only looking at partial recovery. That can change though with time. I want to run a few EMG 's over the course of this summer and restart your physical therapy effective immediately to track the muscle's recovery but I would try to consider another surgery soon"
The doctor nodded, wrote a few things down on her clipboard then left out while my mom followed and a nurse came in to get my vitals.
"Dylan why don't you get us some snacks from the vending machine man?"
He nodded and jogged out.
Olivia was still holding my hand.
"Move over Spence"
I did and she crawled into the bed with me.
"Olivia what am I gonna do? I feel like I took one large step forward, just to take 2 steps back "
With her being this close, I smelled something off but I couldn't put my finger on it.
"You're going to do the work Spencer, you did it before and made huge progress. It's not over yet. Mr.James you are destined for something great and I'll be right here to remind you."
We were looking in to each other's eyes again for a while and sat in comfortable silence before being interrupted.
"We'll all remind you."
My mom, Billy, Dylan, Darnell, Jordan and Mrs.Baker all walked in offering their support to me.
Damn it, I remember now.
Olivia smelled like faint vodka.
Was she drinking before I came?

Grace James POV
I watched the doctor give us the run down on Spencer's condition before just leaving. No I needed more information, you can't just throw the word surgery out there and leave. I already know my son is going to want it so at least tell us what complications may come our way.
I followed her out the room.
"Excuse me doctor."
"Ms.James"
"I just wanted to know for my peace of mind, is this nerve transfer surgery really his only option?"
"Seems like it, I did not want to scare your son but complications can include infection, bleeding, delayed wound healing of the primary site and of course brachial plexus or very limited movement of his arm."
This boy just got Football back and it means so much to him.
I couldn't help but sigh.
Billy and Laura, along with Jordan and Darnell rushed in.
Billy spoke first.
"Hey, you okay? Where is Spencer?"
I relayed everything the doctor told us tonight then emphasized how Spencer will need our support during this time.
We all made our way back toward his room and overheard Olivia.
"You are destined for something great and I'll be right here to remind you"
That girl always had a soft spot for him, I'm glad they can depend on each other.
"We'll all remind you."
Everyone joined Spencer at his bedside just encouraging him during such a difficult time.
This journey has been long but it's not over yet. It's time to think logically and put our best foot forward. My son's future is on the line. Again.
