Two cars found their way to the quarry.
A soft hum from one, while the other was almost deafening. Loud bass with intense synth to pair.
The boys that followed from the drivers sides. Found their way towards one another.
The night was quiet again. The cars shut off and long forgotten. Stilling, to make way for the crickets and fireflies that made their ways through the trees.
Smoke drifting in and out of lungs, guided paths across the night sky.
In their wake laid two boys. Propped up on a car hood. A blunt passed between lips and hands.
Turquoise meeting brown eyes.
And smiles being shared between the two.
The brunette sighed into the night, smoke filtering out of his lips and off towards the lake.
"It's been a while since I've been this relaxed."
He smiled lazily, his eyes going lidded in the process.
"Pot will do that to you Harrington." Billy smirked, his hand reaching for the joint. He tried to not notice the shining lake and the glowing fireflies, and the soft touches between two boys fingers.
"No it's not that...It's just been a good day." Steve stretched out. A dopey smile still latched on his features.
The last remaining sunset danced across their skin. Making Steve shine gold for a few brief minutes.
Billy couldn't help but stare.
Bright, round eyes. Pink lips. With brown speckling of moles across his skin.
He was pretty and all Billy wanted to do was show him that.
Steve shifted from onto his side, propping himself up on an elbow. Head cocked to the side. Freshly trimmed hair falling into his eyes.
Eyes gleaming, Steve asked, "Bill boy, how are you?"
And it felt like he couldn't breathe.
Suffocating under that chocolate brown gaze.
"M' fine." He plastered on a grin. His stomach flipping when he caught Steve's gaze again.
Hours seemed to pass after that. The light disappearing from the lake. And the fireflies making themselves known to the night.
The boys chatted, a ratted quilt around their shoulders. Something dug out from under Billy's seats.
"Want to know a secret?" Billy smirked, knocking his shoulder against the other.
Steve nodded animatedly.
"Hargrove! Who wouldn't."
Billy laughed, settling closer to the boy. An old cigarette burning against his teeth.
"You know why I used to beat on you so much?"
Steve's brows furrowed. They didn't like to mention those things. They knew it was in the past, but something in Steve still burned. Burned in his face. Near his close to broken nose.
Dustin called it PTSD. Robin called it his phantom pains.
"Why?" His voice came out in nearly a whisper. Barely audible to anyone except Billy. Someone who's listened countless times to Steve Harrington and knew how to hear the quiet behind his storm of anxiety and courage.
"Because you're pretty." Billy whispered, sneaking a glance to the beautiful brunette boy to his left. He found round brown eyes staring back at him. In an expression he couldn't quite place. Or was too afraid to give it a name.
"And when boys are pretty... I make bad decisions."
Billy looked down. Eyes burrowing into the blackened lake. Feeling an increasing desire to succumb to the water and never come up for air.
He could still feel Steve's eyes on him. Shame and regret covering him until he couldn't breathe again.
"And when I make those bad decisions, I get my ass beat."
