A small paw nudged the mottled grey tabby tom. He opened his eyes. A replica of him stood in front of him. Almost the same, anyways. It was a she-cat, and her right eye was blue and left one orange, while Iceberg was the opposite. This was Glacier, his perky, happy and cheerful sister. She had a smile on her muzzle, but this was her 'time to go outside' look.
"C'mon! The twoleg isn't going to hold the door open forever!" Then she dashed off, out the door. Iceberg quickly got up and scampered toward the brightness. His claws went click-clack, click-clack on the cool, slippery wooden floor. Scents of the forest, birds and fresh grass. When he got outside, Glacier was already heading for the fence.Kenny, who was a kind tabby tom, lay on fence and just awoke at the sound of the twins. "Hello, Iceberg, Glacier," he mewed, looking tired. Glacier hopped lightly up and onto the fence next to Kenny. Her chevron collar jingled. Iceberg followed her,
"I wonder what's beyond the forest," he stared at the pine trees, looming overhead. A mouse scurried by. Weeds entwined the back of the fence and tree trunks. Kenny looked at the grey cat, "I've heard there's first cats in there- I think there is, um, what do they call themselves... Oh yes! Clan cats. There fierce as a fox," he continued, "I wouldn't ever enter that forest. It's a dangerous place, kit," he explained. He nodded, anxious and curious.
Iceberg felt cool wind ruffle his pelt. He opened his odd eyes. The small window above the tiny waterfall that came when the twoleg's wanted it to come. He stretched, forepaws stretched out and back arched. He quietly hopped onto the ledge, careful to not awake Glacier, who was sleeping next to him.
Iceberg peeked out the window, a long stretch of land stood before him, the grey tom looked behind him. Nothing had changed. The mottled tabby leaped into the soft grass and sprinted for the fence. Wet weeds lapped at his paws and a line of bushes wiped by him. With the wooden fence approaching fast, the tomcat leaped up and landed lightly on the ledge.
"Iceberg? What are you doing out here so late?" He jumped at the sudden noise, a pretty tortoise she-cat sat on the fence next to his. Her eyes burned a emerald green. "Lark, I uh.. Wanted to.. Get some fresh air..." He lied, Lark, her real name being Lauren, was Kenny's sister. She slyly looked at him,
"Your lying,"
"What-I-I mean... Okay, fine! I was lying. So what?"
"What are really doing out here?"
"I wanted to look in the forest-just a quick look, though," the dark she-cat peered into his eyes, her expression unreadable. After a long pause, she often her muzzle and spoke. "It's very dangerous, you know," he looked at the pine forest longingly. He shrugged, "Whatever. Just try not to run to those forest cats. They eat bones!" She stalked off, her scent quickly fading.Iceberg felt alone, but brave. He hopped down from his perch and slowly padded into the dark woods.
