Walking up to Jezabells apartment I start to feel nervous, I've called all her friends and they all said she's at her apartment.
I know I'm wasting my time on her she's been ignoring me this entire week, but atleast if we break up I don't have to wonder could I have done something to prevent it.
I knock and there's silence, not a I'll be there now or even a simple Gatsby I don't want to see you. I know she knows I'm here because of the peephole in her door.
"Jezabell please open up, I know you're inside I've called all your friends," I say really hoping she's actually in there and not at the store or something.
I wait a few more seconds and the door opens and Jezabell says, "Hi, I'm sorry I just wanted to look good even though I've been sick the last week."
I don't understand how Jezabell could ever think she looks anything but like an angel, to me Jezabell is perfect all the time, "You know you could never look anything but beautiful Jezabell," I say kissing her cheek.
I continue saying, "Since you're no longer sick why don't we go out?"
She thinks about it then responds,"Uh... Sure just let me quickly get ready. You can make yourself coffee or tea, I'm sure there's still creamer and milk if you want?" I nod heading to the kitchen as she heads to the bedroom.
"By the way what are we doing, how should I dress?" I hear Jezabell ask from the bedroom.
I never actually thought of what we would be doing if she opened the door. I really should have thought this through more.
"Anything really, something comfortable to walk in," I respond, finishing my coffee, hoping I'll figure it out while we walk.
After I've placed my cup in the sink I wait for her at the door, holding her purse knowing she always forgets it. She walks out in a simple yet cute sweater and beanie with a pair of jeans. I express my fondness of the sweater as we walk out.
She smiles kinda sadly, I wonder the entire walk why she would be sad. When it starts to rain we run to a diner she loves. We both order and talk for a bit she asks me a few questions and I ask her a few. We're silent for a few minutes as I look out the window and think back to high school. We used to run outside as soon as it started raining to just dance stupidly.
"Have you ever danced in the rain?" I ask looking back at her, her reaction says it all before her mouth even opens.
"No, that's a major health hazard and so cliché book like," she's always been really uptight when it comes to health stuff.
But I'm determined I stand up and respond, "But that's what makes it fun, we have to do it."
She looks at me confused then asks, "Where are you going?"
I laugh a little and say, "Well I'm going outside and so are you, there's a little place for foot walkers not too far," I hold out my hand for her.
She looks at my hand and takes it I pull her up and throw more than enough money on the table for the waiter. I wouldn't want Jezabell feeling embarrassed next time she walks in.
We walk a little getting to the clearing. It's one of my favorite places because there is no street, so no cars, and not many people know of it, making it quite serene.
I look back at her and smile asking "Do you want to play the music or can I?"
She looks around at the clearing, then gestures to me, "Go ahead I wouldn't even know what to play."
I smile taking out my phone and play some of the recordings of me playing piano, it's quite an upbeat recording. I take Jezabells hands and move her around a bit knowing this is a bit out of her comfort zone.
"Just dance like no one's watching Jezabell, it's really much more fun than you give it credit," I tell her.
She rolls her eyes and says "I don't think I have to imagine much because no one in there right mind would be out walking now," she says as she starts to dance a bit, stepping in a puddle that makes a huge splash making us both laugh at her shock.
She walks closer to me, suddenly jumping into another puddle splashing me. We go back and forth splashing and laughing at each other.
Time passes and we start to calm down a bit the piano playing now a soft melody. Just swaying together I suddenly remembered my brother wanted to see me at 5. I quickly look at my watch and see it's almost 4:30 and I need to change.
"Would you meet me tonight again at 7 at the clock tower, I have to go my brother's expecting me," I whisper to her she steps away as I give her some money to get home she shakes her head but I'm persistent. Finally she accepts I watch her leave making sure she's safe in a cab. Before getting my own.
I get home change and get another cab as it's still raining.
I talk to my brother about the situation with Jezabell he looks at me and says, "You've always been a sucker for her.." he sighs, looks at me and continues "I don't like her she's hurt you before but I know you're still going to go meet her."
"I'm not going to not go. I invited her what if she shows up and I don't," I say. He nods understanding.
As the time nears I get more nervous, fussing like I'm a girl about my outfit. Doubting if she'll show up I know if she doesn't it'll be her silent whisper to me that we're over.
I'm scared of sitting there hoping she'll come and then she doesn't. With all the negative thoughts I still end up going to the clocktower 10 minutes early.
I get there and start thinking again. I realize she looked so happy today, maybe she will show up.
But 40 minutes pass and its 7:30 and she's still not here. I look at my watch the final time realizing she really isn't coming as I walk back in the rain.
