"Sometimes to move forward, you need to seek a new beginning."

That's what my dad told me as I stood at the airport departure lounge, waiting for the boarding call.

"A fresh start. Away from all the drama. Away from all your problems."

Those were his last words: said in such a way as to mimic an inflection of love. We both knew neither of us truly loved the other. A situation born due to actions, or lack of in some cases, committed. There was no exchange of smiles. No reassuring pat. No banality like, "I'm going to miss you, son."

I didn't expect a goodbye. I didn't get one.

We never had much of a relationship, and though I longed for one... after years of constant rehashing of the ugly truth, I learnt to accept things as it were. It became something I knew deep within will never happen.

Simply put, the story of my life.
