Many years ago, two people fell in love. A man, strong and sturdy, ready to prove to his lover how much he loved them. A woman, soft and gentle, who already knew how in love with each other they were. While the woman had no doubts of the man's love for her, he wanted to offer a gift that could bring her pride in the little family they planned to have. So after many years of his hard work and her unending support, he was able to build the best little hotel the surrounding area has ever seen. The two poured their love for each other and their love for their hotel into the building. The woman baked sweets and did laundry all day while the man handled the other daily chores. The two ended up getting married in front of the hotel, a small gathering of both families to celebrate the two. A few days after their return from the honeymoon, a black and white photo was hung up in the lobby of the hotel. The picture was of a man and a woman, embraced in a sweet kiss, in front of a happy looking hotel.

Their life together seemed to get better and better. After many attempts and help from the family doctor, the wife became pregnant with their first child. When the great news was told to the husband, he instantly started making plans. Plans that included renovating a couple of the rooms on the ground floor, making them into a suitable living area. As well as a little nursery for their little baby to be. The man couldn't be happier with the outcome of his life. A beautiful hotel, a loving wife, and a baby on the way. But, as the months went on and with the renovations underway, the wife started having problems with running the hotel. Too much stress on her tiny, pregnant body was not good. To fix this problem, the man hired his first employee after many years of running the hotel on his own. The employee was a nice young man, who seemed to remind the husband of himself when he first met his wife. So the husband, wife, and new employee continued to run the busy hotel. Now, much easier with the extra set of hands. While the new employee seemed to hold some secrets that the man learned in time, the three worked in easy harmony.

After exactly nine months, the wife went into labor. All of the visiting residents of the hotel and the employee wished the man and wife luck as they rushed off to the hospital. It took many hours to deliver the baby, but when the man came back to the hotel, he looked anything but happy. He looked like he had been crying for a while. His loyal employee came up to ask him about the child and his wife, but the man struck the boy down. Cursing and swearing to any and all gods above and below. Taking his rage out on the poor boy he had been on good terms with the day before. Blaming him for the death of his wife. Blaming the clueless employee that the man lost his wife in childbirth. The doctors explained to the man that due to a complication, they could not have saved the wife. The child, a little bean of a boy, was perfectly healthy and with the correct care would grow tall and strong. The man knew. He knew that boy killed his wife. With his mind in a frenzy, he knew he had to protect his son from the monster he called his employee. So while his son was being taken care of in the hospital, the man destroyed his hotel. But, not in the way of actually destroying the building. No, this was much worse than any damage to the building could have actually caused.

The once cream colored walls with multi colored doors were torn down, replaced by titanium cells and barred gates. A brightly lit hallways with handmade pictures by the late wife were gone, now a hallway dim with exactly three light bulbs that barely worked. Even the pastry smell and sweet smelling candles were soon replaced with a rancid smell of rotting meat. In under two weeks the once loved hotel, a common spot for couples wanting out of the city, was replaced with a cold, dark city. No longer recognizable of the well tended garden or the happy atmosphere.

Then, without a trace, the employee disappeared. Gone to the world, no one even dared his name. That same dark and stormy night the prison got its first resident, given the darkest cell, never to see the daylight again. The man raised his child in that prison, continuing to add prisoners when he got the chance. A harsh environment for a young boy, growing up in a building of hate and monsters as his father called them. Monsters, that seemed like the correct word. The boy grew up learning stories of the monsters from his father. How if they were ever to leave this building, the world would end in chaos. How the one in the top most cell was the reason why his mother was dead before he even joined this world. Instead of a warm hotel with happiness and two loving parents, he grew up with harsh punishments and a prison. Surprisingly, the boy was able to fall in love. He gave his wife his grandmother's ring when he proposed. The lady was an awful person. She was constantly drunk, using all of her husband's money to pay for alcohol. Then, when that money was drained, she found other ways of filling her needs. Mainly in the form of other men. Even when she became pregnant, she wouldn't stop seeing other men behind her husband's back. She gave birth to a girl, two months earlier than she should have. Although, tests results said the baby was her husbands, they ended up getting a divorce when one of her affairs showed up on the doorstep expecting to be in the childs life. So with custody of his daughter, the man and his father decided that she would follow in their footsteps to be warden of the prison. This is the story of that girl and her attempt at an Escape of her destiny. To Escape the black and white of society while doing with an entire new color to her life. To help the Gray that she found in the worst place she expected.
