"this one?" i looked up at our maid, she was holding up a brightly coloured abstract painting.

i shook my head at her. "no... it had a lot of faces on it." we were looking for a specific piece of artwork to hang up on one of our rooms walls. it is my favourite painting, streaks of blue in the background, adding depth to the multiple people in the painting. they all had such unique faces and looked as if they could have been real people.

i bought many paintings on board for the trip, so i could decorate our rooms with them. i hoped that it would give sort of a homey feel. we had a few paintings set up, and it wasn't feeling any less of an imprisonment ship.

"this is the one." i said, gently pulling it out of one of our boxes. i held it out in front of me, it truely was beautiful. "isn't it gorgeous?" i asked our maid, molly.

she gave me a smile of agreement. "would you like them all out, leah?" she asked, talking about the paintings.

"yes, please." i continued. "we need a bit more colour in our rooms." our section that we were assigned was quite big, considering we were on a boat. there were four rooms, two larger ones and two smaller ones. thank the lord i didn't have to share with anyone, especially alex.

all the rooms in our section were quite plain, black, grey, and white colours were the only ones to be seen. the furniture was all brand new, so being around them made me quite nervous. especially because of their white and grey tones which would make them easy to stain.

"did you really have to bring the paintings?" i found myself rolling my eyes at alex's voice as he entered the living room. "they were all a waste of money in my opinion."

i gave molly the side eye in disgust, to which she replied with an apologetic glance.

"the difference between alex's taste in art and mine is that i have a taste." i gave myself a smirk, flicking an unnoticeable wink to molly which caused a giggle.

it seemed to of shut up alex as i only heard a scoff come from his direction. i finally placed the painting with the faces on it down on one of the couches, getting it ready for it to be hanged up.

"whats the artist's name?" molly questioned.

i tilted my head, looking back at the painting. "uhmm... something picasso i think?"

"oh, yes. a very famous artist. pablo picasso." she said quietly to which i smiled at.

"lets put it in my bedroom." i said, beaconing molly.

i walked into my bedroom, with molly closely behind me. it was luxurious, without a doubt. almost too luxurious for my liking. everything in my bedroom, everything in our whole section screamed rich and i hated it.

i held up the painting to one of of the walls. "does it look good here?" i looked over my shoulder to molly.

"yes, it looks lovely." she agreed. "everything in here smells so brand new. it's funny to think that when i go to bed, i'll be the first to use those sheets." she giggled.

"oh, molly." i smiled at her.

i looked behind her to see alex entering the room. my smile quickly faded away, which caused molly to turn around and look at alex. he gave her a gesture of flicking his head, asking her to leave the room.

"excuse me, leah." molly said, as she turned to exit my bedroom

alex stood in the doorway, so she couldn't pass. "you two aren't friends, you're our maid. thats miss dewitt-arnaud to you."

"alex, that's completely unnecessary. i've asked her to just call me leah." i scowled at him, flashing molly an apologetic look.

he let her pass. "she works for us. it's plain rude."

"not in my books." i argued. ever since we were arranged to be married, we've been arguing. i loved spending time with him, but for some reason he could never be wrong. he always had to be right.

alex shut the door behind him as he walked up to me. his black hair was slicked back tidily, his eyes were a lightish brown. he was wearing simple dark jeans and black blazer over his white button down shirt. his whole appearance made him look incredibly wealthy, which he was.

he stopped in front of me, lowered his head and gave me a small kiss on the head.

i found myself giving him an awkward forced smile, to which he returned. i had to try and make this work.
