brielle pov :
i hadn't heard from blair or serena at all this morning. considering that blair's party was today it was weird. i decided to stop by her place. dorota told me the her and serena were upstairs. i walked up to her room and saw the two talking.

"hey guys," i said as i walked through the door.

"hey bri," serena said. i looked at blair and she had an unrecognizable look on her face.

"um, so are we going to the party together?" i asked.

"no, you know serena and i have somewhere to be," blair said.

"no we d-," serena started.

"come on s," blair said as she pulled her off the bed. i looked at serena as they walked past the door. i gave her a look, basically asking what was going on. she gave one back to me, she had no idea. i left blair's house shortly after that.

later that night i got ready to go to her party, expecting a call about the plans before the party. we had talked about hanging out prior to it and then arriving together. time passed and i was already late for the party. i was walking towards the front of the building and i saw nate. we made eye contact.

"brielle," he said.

"hey nate." i walked up to him.

"so you gonna go inside?"

"i was planning on it, but now that i'm here, i'm not so sure. blair was acting weird when i saw her today."

"um i know why." he paused. "blair knows about what i said to you at the ball."

"holy shit, does she know what i said back?"

"i doubt it, you would know."

"how did she find out?"

"jenny humphrey, she was the only one who i saw around us at the time."

"yeah i'm definitely not going inside now."

"uh, do you wanna go take a walk or something?"

"i don't think it's the best idea, what would blair think?"

"well, blair's up there. unless you wanna go see her, it's up to you."

"how about that walk?"

nate and i walked around the city, we got pretzels and found steps to sit on.

"so how's everything with your dad?" i asked nate.

"it's pretty bad, but both my parents seem to think that it just a bump in the road. they won't take it seriously."

"they are just scared."

"so my dad doesn't want to let go of eleanors business deal, so this is their was of keeping it," nate said as he pulled out a small box. "blair's birthday present." i opened the box.

"your mothers ring."

"i'm, uh, supposed to give it to blair tonight."

"nate this is an engagement ring."

"blair and i broke up, and i know it was the right thing to do. i mean we just shouldn't be together right now, you know?"

"sound like your pretty sure of that."

"i am, and as much as i want to do the right thing and help out my parents, it's just- it's not fair. i mean to me or to blair. i just think that if i do this now, when does it ever stop?"

"it will only stop when you stop it."

after talking some more nate hailed down a cab for me.

"so i don't know how it was possible given how the day started,  but i actually had a good night."

"me too archibald," i said as we both went in for a hug. after we let go nate opened the door and i got in.

"have good night brielle."
