I ran faster than I ever thought I could, so fast I thought I was flying. But then maybe I was. Mom said that my dad was Zeus, not that I believed her or anything.
So it had to just be a coincidence that my name was Sky. "I....have....to....run....faster," I said to myself despite my huffing and puffing, "It's....getting....closer."
As my feet were pounding the rough dirt I reached into my bag. I pulled out my knife I kept in there and looked around as I kept running. All around me I saw eyes looking at me. I brushed it off as owls looking at all the commotion.
I unfastened my knife and stopped and said "I, Sky Marie James, am done running if I die I died fighting!" The thing was on top of me now and I plunged the knife into its stomach, but not before it sunk its teeth into my arm.
I lay on the ground fading in and out of consciousness. Before I was completely unconscious I saw something like a silver arrow glide through the thing's head.
I was sure I was dead. Ever so slowly I tried to lift my head. It felt like I was pulling my head out of mud. I opened my eyes and looking down at me was this beautiful face. She had this dark brown hair that was almost black with gorgeous hazel eyes.
"Hi my name is Elizabeth," she said, "I'll get Mia for you." The girl who walked in next had to be Mia because that is Elizabeth said she was going to get. But that is not what I imagined a Mia would look like I always imagined a bleach blond bubbling idiot.
No, that was not at all what she looked like she had kind of blond kind of brown hair and really blue eyes.
"Hi my name is Mia and I'll be your healer by the way daughter of Apollo," she added as an after thought totally casual. "Wh...what!" I screamed. "Hush hush or Lady Artemis will end up coming in here," Mia said as calm as day.
"So let me get this straight you mean to tell me that all the Greek Gods are real?" I asked still not believing my ears. "Yep," Elizabeth and Mia both said.
"So maybe my mom was telling the truth maybe I am the daughter of Zeus," I mumbled. "So who is your godly parent then Elizabeth?" I asked.
"Um," she said sounding kind of embarrassed, "My mom is Aphrodite." "Now that you say that," I said, "I can totally see that your are drop dead gorgeous." At my words her face became a rose color and she mumbled something about needing to go to the bathroom.
I asked Mia if I said something wrong. "No she is the only daughter of Aphrodite here so she is kind of embarrassed about that." "Also," she said as an after thought, "Her mom is the goddess of love and we are eternal maidens."
"So that makes you guys the Hunters of Artemis right?" I said trying to sound confused.
Slowly Mia unwrapped the gaze around my arm and when she did it tugged at the skin on my arm. Mia couldn't see or maybe she could and she didn't say anything but my eyes were welling up with tears.
She got it completely unwrapped and I looked down at it, and it was a dark rose color with the muscle torn.
"Wh....what was that thing?" I asked. "Well that was a hellhound, somebody obviously wants you dead and they made a deal with Persephone," Mia said with a hint of panic. I said without thinking,"Probably to get her out of that hellhole."
"So you do know your Greek "Mythology," Mia said with a hint of satisfaction. "Ok, ok I know a little," I said admitting defeat. "I want to be a Hunter," Sky said after a moments pause.
Mia wrapped up my arm tight after she put salve on. I thought she was about to walk out on me. But she walked to a cabinet and pulled out a square container with "Ambrosia" on the side. "What is that! You can't poison me I won't let you! I won't eat it! I won't!" Sky screamed. Mia chuckled, "If I wanted to kill you we would have left you in the woods with that hellhound on your arm."
I said stuttering, " It wasn't owls in the trees was it it?" "Wow you should be daughter of Athena," Mia remarked sarcastically.
