In the 1100's, the world was full of mystery. Nobody knew much of anything about the supernatural. Vampires. Werewolves. Elves. Witches. Fairies. All unknown, dangerous creatures that humans were scared of. These supernatural beings were actually safe and rational. They didn't become dangerous until they were cast from the pack for a crime or for some other punishment, and they were then known as rogues. Rogues craved human blood.
Werewolves could roam about the humans in daylight, but the people judged them so much and stereotyped them saying they were just evil, ugly things out to get them when in reality, they were protectors.
Werewolves were free to roam without judgement in the castle. Because the werewolves were able to hide behind the walls of the castle from the humans as the kings and queens and princes and princesses. They were the lords and dames. But, they were actually a pack on the inside of those walls. The Bloodlust pack. A pack that would continue to reign on for many many generations. Just without the castle.
There was always an air of mystery and fear floating around the villages, towns, and kingdoms, but there was always an edge of safety and protection lurking in the background. The protection being the werewolves.
The race of werepeople had sworn enemies. The vampires, who drank animal blood because drinking human blood was illegal. They could feed off their own kind, or other supernaturals, if it was consensual.
The witches, because they would spout crazy prophecies which rarely came true, but they had powerful magic, and if you made them angry, their wrath was upon you.
There are many other enemies, some unknown, only time will tell.
