Malachi's voice boomed through the classroom, so loud that he could have rivaled an auctioneer

Malachi's voice boomed through the classroom, so loud that he could have rivaled an auctioneer. The aforementioned boy sauntered into the classroom, the cheeky smile on his face growing the instant his eyes landed on me.

Lachlan leaned over towards me. "Just me or does he look like he's about to fuck some shit up?"

"Definitely about to fuck some shit up," I answered, leaning back into my chair, balancing it on its back two legs.

Malachi dropped his bag at the desk in front of us and sat down. Ruby, the fourth member of our friend group followed and perched into the chair next to him.

"New glasses?" Lachlan asked, and I followed his gaze to Ruby. Rather than her usual square frames, circular glasses sat on her nose.

Ruby clicked her tongue against the roof of her mouth, her eyebrows rising with the action. "They look more chic right?"

Lachlan hesitated before nodding. I highly doubted that he knew exactly what chic meant.

Ruby Summers had grown up as Malachi's neighbour, and as Lachlan and I became friends with Malachi, Ruby had joined our 'circle'.  Despite being able to mould into the image of a stereotypical girl, Ruby seemed be one of her kind and somehow managed to fit perfectly into what used to be our trio.

"Thoughts on me dying my hair red?" she asked, and naturally my eyes ran over her hair. Today, Ruby's blonde hair was tied up in a complicated hair style that probably had Poppy Carter seething in a corner.  I tried picturing her with red hair, but the only change I could visualise was her porcelain skin becoming even more pale.

Malachi cleared his thought. "I think they're going to find my new hair cut idea more interesting." When Malachi was certain that he held our attention, he continued, "I'm going to go bald."

I straightened up, the chair now standing on all four legs. "Are you serious?"

The troublesome smirk on Malachi's face grew. "As serious as a mother fucking heart attack."
