*Elena POV*

I woke up in the back of an ambulance with a paramedic trying to wake me up.

"Hey, welcome back," he said. "How are you feeling?"

"I've got a headache," I said, with a slight chuckle.

"I can well imagine," he laughed. "Can you tell me your name?"

"Um, yea, it's um, I don't...I don't know,"

Why can't I remember? Why can't I remember my own name?

"That's okay, we can try again later," the paramedic said quietly. "Do you remember what happened to you?"

"No," I replied.

We arrived at the hospital and I was taken to a room, where a doctor was waiting for me. I began to get mad at myself. Why could I not remember who I was? Why could I not remember who I was? Was I outside? Was I at home? Do I have a home? I don't know. Why don't I know? How old even am I? What is my god damn name?

*Syd POV*

Elena, please. Please just come running up to your front door right now. Be out of breath and sweating and in need of a cold glass of water and a hug. But as I waited and waited she didn't show up.

Schneider rang the police and by the time they showed up, I could not breathe. I felt the entire world crumbling around me. I was unable to string a sentence together. Penelope was trying to calm me down while trying to talk herself down from an anxiety attack herself. I explained to the police that Elena and I were being harassed by a group of men on our way home, I told them where it was and that I thought it would be a good idea to run and I thought Elena was following me. Penelope gave Elena's description to the police officers and I told them what she had been wearing.

"It was very smart of you to run, young lady," one of the officers said. "You were very brave,"

I did not have the energy to correct the officer on my preferred pronouns right now, nor did I think that I was smart or brave. If I had been brave I would have stayed with Elena, made sure she was safe. If I was smart I would have made her run with me. Then she would be here, safe, unharmed. I couldn't help but keep hoping that she would show up, panting and sweaty from running. But all that hope led to nothing.

"I do not feel smart, or brave, sir," I said. "Penelope, Lydia I'm so sorry, I should not have come back here without Elena, I should have stayed with her, but I honestly thought that she was behind me, I'm so sorry,"

"You did the right thing coming back here, you're safe here, we will find Elena," Penelope said to me calmly.

"I will kill the men who dared to have harassed Elena," Lydia shouted.

"Ay, Mami, no you won't. I will," Penelope said as she proceeded to take out her earrings.

"We will go out and search for your daughter tonight and for as long as we need to," the other officer said to Penelope.  "We will also try and find the men who harassed you and your girlfriend," he said, looking at me.

The officers left and Penelope, Lydia, Alex, and I all went out to look for Elena. We walked up and down streets yelling her name in hopes that she would come running to us after hiding somewhere for all these hours. But she didn't. We were out searching until 5am with no luck. We decided to head back to the apartment to fill up on caffeine before going out again.

When we got back Penelope's phone rang.

"Mrs Alvarez?" A girl matching your daughter's description was admitted to the hospital last night, would you like to come and identify her?" the police officer said.

"She should know who she is, right? Ask her! Ask her if her name is Elena Alverez!" Penelope shouted.

"I cannot reveal any information about her wellbeing over the phone, would you like to come and identify her, ma'am?"

"Yes, yes of course,"
