They entered a mountain tunnel. Everything outside was black. They had no idea where the were. The truck turned into more blackness. Then a light was seen at the far end. They passed out of the tunnel into an underground passage. Komui got out. Lavi followed, opening the sliding door of the van.
“Come on, guys.” He said. Shion woke Gareki, who yawned and sat up. Nai smiled at him. Kanda then Allen climbed out. Allen punched Lavi. The tall teen staggered backwards. Several people in brown jumpsuits sprang out of the wood work, all heading for Allen. Kanda twisted around to protect the white haired teen, Rat was there as well. Shion jumped from the truck, blocking the way to Nai.
Komui held up a hand. “Lavi?” he asked. The red haired teen brushed a thin trickle of blood from his lip.
“I guess I deserved that.” He scowled at Allen. “You know I wouldn’t hurt them!” he complained pointing to Nai and Shion. Allen shrugged.
“You're still an idiot. “ the pale teen said. Lavi shook his head.
“Come on.” He ordered. The others relaxed. Shion helped Nai out then people came to get Gareki.
“I want my doctors to examine him. While they are doing that, I will take you to your rooms.” Komui stated. The walked up a small flight of stairs to an elevator. The room it opened onto was chaos. People running every which way, papers literally flying in the air, you could hear phones ringing and machines noises hidden deeper in the room.
Four people rushed Komui all talking at once. As he strolled across the room the chief signed his name to a clipboard, answered a few questions and reviewed a policy change. He opened the door at the end of the hall without stopping once.
There was another elevator, this one an open cage, that took them up a column like structure. At the top Komui lead them down a hall with many doors on either side. He paused before one.
“Lavi?” he held out his hand. Lavi took out a bunch of long metal antique keys. He held one out to Komui. The chief unlocked the door. They stepped inside.
“I thought it best to make this Kanda's room. It is at the juncture of hallways and an assassin would have to pass by him to get to any of you.” The room was sparse. The black granite walls gave it an appearance of a jail cell. There was a window on the far side of the room. A bed sat beside it. A trunk at the foot of the bed and a desk next to a dresser were all the items in the room. Komui opened a door on one side to reveal a closet. The door on the other was a bathroom that linked to the next room.
“You will have to share a room. But don’t fret.” He took another key from Lavi opening the door to an identical room. “This is Allen's room.” They went back out into the hall. The next room was Nai's he shared a bathroom with Gareki. Across the hall was Shion's room who shared with Rat. The other two doors remained closed.
“They are mine and Bookman’s rooms.” Lavi explained. Komui gave a nod.
“Very well, I will take my leave. Once Gareki is checked over I will have him brought up, then we will talk, Allen Walker.” Allen watched him walk away. They each held the key to their room. Allen shoved Lavi into his. The others followed finding seats where they could.
“Talk!” he demanded. Lavi stood in the center of the room.
“It started about a year after you escaped. Bookman and I started researching this place. Everything we found sounded nothing like what you guys had been subjected to. Then dad got his hands on me and put that chip in my arm.” He snarled. He looked at Allen. “We know how that nearly ended.” He said.
“Not all of us!” Kanda pointed out.
“Cross followed Lavi. We were nearly all captured.” Allen said.
“Nearly?” Rat asked.
“Lavi and I got out before he got us.” Shion said. “we then made a plan and broke them out, using that chip as a decoy of sorts.” Shion smiled.
“Ok. So when Bookman said he was emailing this Komui guy I was terrified, just like you, Al.” Lavi said. “I didn’t want to be the cause of you guys getting captured again.” He added.
“We met with Komui, we became exorcists and I got the chip out.” He stated.
“How?” Allen asked.
“That would be for Komui to answer.” A female voice said from the door. A girl with long dark hair with green tinge glided in she rushed to hug Lavi.
“Glad you made it back safely.” She said. He returned the greeting.
“Lenalee, I would like you to meet my brothers. Allen,” he pointed to the scarred teen who grudgingly waved. “Shion" who jumped up to shake her hand. “and Nai.” The smallest one came up to hug her. She giggled at how adorable he was.
“This is Komui's sister Lenalee Lee. She is an exorcist as well.”
“Just what is an exorcist?” Kanda asked. Lavi introduced the two dark haired teens, neither of which moved to greet her. Instead they barely nodded.
“We are fighters that have been chosen by our innocence to fight Akuma which are a type of demon, possessing people.” She explained. “We also work to save human kind from extinction by these akuma.”
“Sounds like more of Cross's gambling to make better soldiers.” Allen muttered.
“Is that what he was trying to do to you?” Lenalee looked horrified. Allen looked away. He said nothing more. Ten minutes later the door opened. Gareki was led in by Komui. Nai rushed to the boy. His arm was in a sling and he looked paler than usual, but he was walking.
“Nai, ease up.” He teased as the boy’s arms crushed his waist.
“You're ok?” Nai asked looking up at him with those big red eyes. Gareki ruffled his hair.
“Yeah, I’m ok.” He smiled.
“Well now, I’m sure Lenalee told you a few things. I would like to take you all to the training center.” Komui said. “If that’s ok?” he asked as Kanda, Allen, and Rat all shifted to protect Nai and Gareki.
“It's not.” Kanda said. “My brother was shot today; testing can wait until tomorrow.” Komui studied the dark teen, then gave a quick nod.
“In that case, Jerry is very excited for you to come see him.” He gave them a smile before walking out.
Lavi laughed. “You all are going to love Jerry!” he cried leading the others out. It turned out Jerry was the head Chef, and he was willing to make anything. Allen and Nai kept yelling things. He made it all. The boys gorged themselves. Allen laughed once he ate about fifteen courses.
“Wow, I have never been this full before.” They saw Karen and Bookman as they left the cafeteria. They were with Johnny. Karen was in a lab coat.
“Karen has agreed to help us, since she is familiar with your DNA.” A tall man with wild unkempt hair stated.
“This is Reever he is in charge of the lab, whenever Komui isn’t there.” Lavi added. They all greeted him then went to their rooms. It turned out Shion couldn’t sleep. He went to check on Nai only to find him missing.
“Relax, he’s asleep with Gareki.” Rat said closing the door to his brothers’ room. Shion nodded.
“I'm so used to him sleeping in my room.” He spoke mostly to himself as he walked toward his own room.
“Want to come over?” Rat asked pointing to his door. Shion gave him a small smile and followed him inside.
The next day they ate breakfast together. Jerry was ready for Allen giving him a huge cart full of breakfast delights from around the world. Allen ate it all.
“I think he is a parasitic type.” He told Komui. “The kid doesn’t even know why he has always been hungry.” The chef shook his head.
“What does that mean?” Allen demanded.
“It means your body is your antiakuma weapon.” Lavi said. “I am an equipment type.” He pulled out his magical hammer making it grow to stand as tall as he was. “My hammer houses my innocence.”
“In your case, Allen, your body is the house for your innocence.” Komui explained.
The boys were led to a lab where Karen hugged them all. She told them they had nothing to fear. All six boys lined up in front of a pit. The hatch on it opened. Kanda was struck by a glowing green orb, Rat a square one, Nai and Shion’s both were round. Gareki caught a long bullet shaped one. He snorted.
“Well I always preferred guns.” He said.
“You have all been chosen by innocence.” Komui said pointing to the green objects.
“Allen, would you mind using your special talents?” he asked. He seemed unsure what they would be. Nai laughed. “Put us up there.” He pointed to the top of a machine that was easily six stories above their heads.
“I doubt…” Komui began. Allen's left arm shot out. He scooped up Shion, Rat and Nai. Raising them together in his closed fist, he set them onto of the machine. Nai laughed.
“Lavi, extend your hammer so we can slide down!” the boy called. Lavi obliged. With a laugh the three took turns sliding back down to the ground level. Allen's eye was glowing red as he watched. He answered Komui's questions about what it did.
The scientist separated them to different stations. They could still see each other. Nai ran on a treadmill, he kept increasing the speed. The scientist told him to stop when he got tired. Nai simply laughed. He only stopped when the machine broke.
Rat was sparring with knives and a dummy. His body moved swiftly as he jumped and danced around. Kanda was doing sword work outs. Allen targeting skills with his arm. Gareki was shooting various pistols since he couldn’t handle a rifle with his arm yet. Shion stood on a platform looking around at them all.
“Tell them, Shion, how best to move together without stopping their activity or getting hurt.” Komui instructed. Shion glanced around once more. He then directed each one to move. When he was done, they all stood back to back in the center. No one was hurt.
“You have a strategic mind, my young friend.” Komui said. Shion turned to look at him.
“I know, which means I also know, we can not leave here.” He eyed Komui.
“What do you mean?” Allen called.
“We have been chosen by this innocence to fight in their war. We can’t leave once we are chosen.” He added.
“You may leave at any time, until your weapon is forged.” Komui stated.
“But, Allen?” Nai looked at his brother. Allen smiled.
“I have to stay. At least they feed me better.” He chuckled.
“If Allen stays, so do I.” Kanda said.
“Well I'm staying.” Rat agreed. “Shion?” he looked up pleadingly at the boy.
“I'm not leaving Allen.” He said.
“No. Take Nai, give him a life!” Allen cried.
“Well he would be going alone, since I'm staying.” Nai said. Shion grinned at him. Gareki tossed the gun down on a table. He put his arm around Nai.
“I'm staying with him.” He said.
“Very well. Tomorrow the science department will begin work on your weapons.” Komui stated. “I promise, while you are at headquarters, you will be safe.” He added.
“But once we start fighting for you it just depends on our skill set?” Allen asked. Komui nodded.
“Sadly, yes. We will prepare you as best we can.” He added.
In the end Kanda’s weapon was a katana sword he dubbed Mugen. Rat had twin green knives that could extend into a battle sword. Separated he dubbed them Carvat and Moonlight, once placed together into a battle sword he jokingly called it Hamlet.
Gareki was given a gun with unlimited firing power. He never had to reload. He called it his Number two, as Nai would always be number one. The pale boy blushed at this. Nai had boots like Lenalee. They were subsonic and he could do devastating things with them, like sonic blasts as breaking the sound barrier. He named them doc.
Shion was given goggles. Once placed over his eyes he was able to view a topographical map of the area. Dots appeared to indicate where friend and for were. In this way he was able to direct the movements of others. He also had the ability to shoot lasers. He called it his Second sight.
Allen named his arm The crown clown. As he trained, he learned more skills with it. A cape and masked appeared to give him the look of a clown. It turned out that once he spotted an Akuma, his left eye went wild. Allen could see the Akuma in normal looking humans. A devastating advantage.
They stood before Komui as a team. “We may never get close to Cross. He is a cunning sort, and a general at that. But with you all on board, we now have a fighting chance at ending this war.” They cheered. They were now exorcists, soldiers fighting a war that had raged for ions. The End
