Chapter 1
The screams echoed throughout the hospital.
"C'mon just a bit harder so the girls will come out." commanded the doctor.
Veronica pushed with all her might, she felt the world collapse around her, all she heard was the faint crying of two babies in the background. Then, everything went blank.
December 31st, 1995 11:58 pm: Veronica gave birth to her first and oldest daughter, Stephanie Gabriela
January 1st, 1996 12:03 am: Veronica gave birth to her youngest daughter, Carie Lizbeth
January 1st, 1996 9:30 am
Out in the lobby tragic news was about to be delivered. Felicite quietly sobbed as she heard the news that her poor sister, Veronica, was holding on weakly for life. "Veronica wants to talk to you." said the doctor to Felicite.
Felicite walked the vacant hallways towards Veronica's room. The seconds Felicte walked into her room, Veronica quietly said, "I know I'm dying but you need to promise me something." tears welled up in both their eyes.
"Yes, what is it love?"
"I need you to take care of my daughter, don't let anything happen to them, ok? Please, this is all I'm asking for." she cried.
"Yes, I promise." Felicite replied as she pulled Veronica into a tight embrace. Beeeep Beeeep the heart monitor machine slowed down. Felicite and Veronica continued to cry in each other's arms.
"Love and treat them as if they were your own." Veronica whispered. Beeeeeeeeep Veronica's now weakend heart gave out once and for all.
*Two months later*
"I'm sorry, baby." Felicite said as she kissed the top of her oldest niece's, Carie's, head. She walked into the other room and handed the small child to her friends, Allie and Xavier, who couldn't have a baby of their own. Felicite's struggle with money had convinced her to give one of her nieces away.
"Take good care of her." she told them.
"We will." Xavier reassured her.
"We can't thank you enough." Allie smiled.
"We'll be going to Doncaster tomorrow morning." they informed Felicite.
"Alright then." Felicite gave her niece one last kiss and hugged her friends goodbye. With that, Xavier and Allie climbed into their car after putting Carie in her car seat.
