Oblivious and beautiful

"Listen all I'm saying is that it's music worth listening to Artie! You can't be stuck with just your Frank Simatra all the time" You smiled at him as you both walked down the dirty streets of Gotham.

"First of all it's Frank SINATRA, and I have no problem listening to him until the end of time Tee" Arthur just looked sideways at you while you tried to decide if getting your clothes from your locker were worth the teasing you get from your coworkers minus Gary of course. "Let's just rush in like bandits and then you can come home with me for dinner today. I promise I'll even eat if you ask nicely." He continued making you giggle at the thought.

"I don't know Artie I mean would it really bug your mom if I just showed up to your house dressed as Tee-Tee the clown?" You gave Ha-Ha's a look until finally going in with Arthur trailing behind. "Like bandits" you repeated to yourself. Avoiding everyone's gazes while walking to your locker. "Well well if it isn't our little clown princess back from her journey." Randall always pushed your buttons for no reason it seemed. Little did you know it was to get Arthur's goat and push him to finally confess his love for you.

Randall kept with his jokes and inappropriate behaviors while you ignored him and focused on getting your things and Arthur out of there. It wasn't like you weren't used to it but sometimes it's best to just ignore Randall until he gives up or finds a new victim. Arthur looked at the floor for the duration of the teasing until Gary mentioned the box that he almost forgot to give to Arthur. He hurriedly grabbed it and hid it in his bag before you were able to take notice. After getting everything together you and Arthur linked arms listening to the group of guys humming the wedding march as you and Arthur started walking out. The walk was mostly quiet with the exception of some strained Arthur laughs meaning he was nervous over something.

"Artie-choke you doing good? Ya seem a bit off" Arthur had a pained look in his face as he stifled the laughter and shook his head. " Tee, I just got a little thing on my mind but don't worry" he managed to get out before having more laughter fits. When you finally reached the apartment he did his usual routine of checking the mailbox, deep down you both knew Wayne was far too busy to ever try to reply to Penny and most likely never even got the letters. But neither of you had the heart to ever attempt to ease the idea to Penny. You and Arthur were just chatting away as the trudge up the stairs didn't seem as bad as usual after a long day at work. Arthur has you giggling so much that his heart was doing back flips at the look of your face while you covered your mouth. As you reached the door you heard the soft sounds of the TV indicating that Penny was still awake. when you walked in Penny immediately took notice to you smiling brightly. 

"Oh giggles! im so glad to see you how are you doing?" You walked up to her and hugged her tightly "Are you keeping my Happy happy? I can't wait until we start the planning it will be so-" "MOTHER!" Arthur's voice startled the both of you "umm... Well it hasn't..we didn't talk yet.." You were rather confused at his sudden outburst before going to the kitchen to prepare dinner for the three of you.  Hushed voiced bickered back and forth while you started cooking.

What could possibly be so secretive and important that warranted him to yell like that? Maybe something happened and he just wasn't ready to tell you. What if he actually was upset with you? How could he be though you were the best of friends although things have been a little distant and slightly awkward from time to time. You figured maybe Arthur was tired of you already. All those thoughts buzzed in your head like hornets until Arthur finally snapped you out of your daze "Tee the food! It's burning!"   "What? Huh...Oh geez" you shoved on oven mittens before pulling out the burnt meatloaf placing it on the stove top. The faint smoke surrounding the kitchen you worked hard to fan everything out while Arthur took penny to her room to avoid more smoke inhalation. You sat on the floor in defeat covering your face, how could you have messed this up so badly now for sure Artie was done with you. You wouldn't be able to explain nearly burning down his apartment without sounding like a complete fool.

While Arthur walked back into the kitchen he saw you head down and felt a pain in his chest. Do it now. This is your chance. Be her hero. He silently walked over to his bag pulling out the box before sitting down next to you. "Tee please look at me. I have a surprise for ya" He handed you the box waiting for your response. While waiting he went into his laughter fits you slowly opened the box to reveal 3 things, the first a large framed picture of the both of you the first day you both worked at a children's party you had matched with him and the children loved it he had you in a side hug with his right arm raised while you did the same pose. For the second thing it was a beautiful flower encapsulated in resin the colors were so vibrant you were mesmerized. "Oh Artie you really know how to get the water works flowing" looking at him tears blurring your vision. "Keep looking before you cry a river in here Giggles" as he wiped away your tears your nostrils were filled with the smell of cigarettes, pen ink, and faint grease paint.

Opening up the final present you gasped in surprise. "Artie... You...are you serious?" It was a hand carved frame with the words I love you my clown princess. "Is it too much? I know I'm not exactly a catch but I was hoping that you'd settle for a clown" you quickly shut him up with a slow kiss before sitting back and looking at him "Geez I never knew you liked me Artie-choke I'm such a dunce aren't I?"
