I woke up to the familiar sound that my phone makes every morning. I lunge my arm in an attempt to grab the some what screaming object. But of course that fails, and my phone falls off my nightstand. I groan as a respond to what had just happened.
I laid there for a long while. Listening to the loud sound of my alarm echoing thought my small room. I had no motivation left in me. Especially since I knew what today was.
The first day of our last summer. It's the summer we all have dreamed about. Well at least not for me. I have been dreading for this day to come.
This is the last summer that I have with my best friends. The last time I will see them. Be with them. I knew Isla was excited, she had been waiting for this since freshmen year.
I don't want to say that I am scared. But I would be lying if I didn't. I close my eyes still hearing the same sound that has been echoing around my room for the past ten minutes.
I slowly sit up and try to get myself to wake up. I began to rub the sleep from my eyes as I reach for my sweatshirt at the foot of my bed. That's when I finally reach down to pick up my phone.
I began to beat my phone with my finger trying to turn my alarm off. I started to cry for no reason, no reason at all. That's when I heard footsteps from outside my room. I quickly wipe my tears and turn off my alarm less aggressively.
That's when I hear a knock. 'Come in' I say my voice still nasally from crying a few moments prior. 'Hey' Shawns voice was quiet yet comforting. 'Hey' I said trying to hide the fact that I was crying seconds ago.
'Is everything ok?' He ask with pure concern in his voice. 'Oh yeah everything is good' I say trying to add some pep in my voice, but failing miserably.
'Audrey I know something is up' He spoke softly. 'Shawn I just woke up give me a break!' I said raising my voice just enough to get my point across. 'Ok, ok I was just making sure. I heard your alarm go off for quite some time.'
'Oh I began to stammer, yeah I guess I slept through it.' I gave a small laugh in an attempt to cover up how I really felt. But I knew he could see right through it. He slowly stood up and left my room without another word.
All of us have been living at Mickeys grandparents large penthouse In downtown Malibu. He grandparents passed last year, leaving the penthouse to her.
My parents have left me to travel the world. I moved in with Isla and Shawn once they left. There house was becoming to small so Mickey offered the penthouse.
I slowly pick myself up and walk to my door. I hear yelling coming from the kitchen quickly recognizing that's is Shawn and Isla.
They never had anything going on between before. I walk downstairs to see Ellie siting on the couch with Kaiden and the TV quietly playing Greys Anatomy in the background.
'No!' I hear Isla scream. 'Can y'all please be quiet!' Ellie turned around so her torso was leaning over the couch. 'Y'all have been yelling all morning.' Kaiden interjected. 'Peter left you stop blaming it on me!' Shawn spat out.
'Oh shit' Ellie whispered. 'How dare you!' Isla said shoving Kaiden. I could see the tears just itching to spill from her eyes.
I knew it hurt Isla, but I didn't think that she was still attached to him. About a year ago Isla dated this boy named Peter. He was extremely nice and kind. They hit it off very well.
Even Shawn approved of him. Which was a huge surprise to everyone. Peter and Isla stared getting into some rough patch towards summer of our junior year.
They fought through it. The one thing that no one excepted was that Peter hit her one night. That's when Shawn went mad shit on Peter. It was probably a week after it happened we all knew Shawn was planning on doing something but no one expected it to be this bad.
One night we all walked over to Carmelo's, other wise known as our local burger shack. As soon as Shawn noticed Peter was there he approached him and talked with him.
Everything seemed to be going well until Shawn threw the first punch. He began to beat Peter so badly he broke his nose in two places a back eye and a busted ear drum. After that Peter quickly left.
I stared a Shawn in pure wonder of how he could do that. Isla was balling her eyes out while Ellie cradled her from the side.
Kaiden stood there in disbelief while holding our tray of food. Peters friends left not long after. Shawn sat down and ate his burger staying silent for the rest of the night.
A few months after the attack Peter attempted to apologize to Isla. She forgave him and moved on. We all knew deep down she was still in love with him.
Every night I could hear her cry. I broke my heart to hear my best friend cry her self to sleep every night. Isla soon fell into a state of depression.
But luckily Corinina pulled her out of it. Everything has been good since.
'Why would you say that dude?' Kaiden gave a questioning look to Shawn . 'Isla I am sorry' he gave out a small whisper. Isla ran back upstairs and slammed the door behind her.
'Well this isn't how I pictured this day' Ellie said in a shocked tone. 'It's how none of us did' I said slowly.
So I am rewriting this book, I really felt like there was so much more that needed to be explained. I will be continuing to write this book but with long chapters and more accurate to how I picture it. Thank you.❤️
