chapter two
journey jones and flora knight jogged to their usual before-school hangout: the cherry blossom tree in the courtyard. jack avery, corbyn besson, and zach herron were waiting for them by one of the picnic tables.
"took you long enough," zach joked. journey elbowed flora playfully. "we drove through town today because somebody wanted a strawberry muffin." flora grinned, hands held high. "i was hungry, jj! no shame in that."
flora handed journey a muffin, biting into her own after jj took hers. "i haven't seen jonah or daniel this morning," flora stated, slightly confused as the two in question were usually the first to arrive. corbyn laughed while zach and jack shared amused looks. "they're looking for daniel's mystery girl."
journey grinned at the boys, "mystery girl? why didn't i hear about this sooner?" flora placed the remainder of her breakfast in the paper bag beside her. "we need details j!" "daniel and jonah had to talk to a couple of teachers after school yesterday-"
"that's why they were late," journey interjected. "journey jones, shut up. i'm trying to tell a story!" she held her hands up in surrender. "anyways, daniel heard some girl singing 'goodbye yellow brick road' in the music room and now he's going on a wild goose chase trying to find her."
corbyn stood up after jack wrapped up the story, drawing the group's attention. "mars is waiting for me by my locker. i'll see you guys at lunch!" "see ya corbyn." journey and zach waved as the blond hurried into the school. flora tucked a stray piece of hair behind her ear, eyes following corbyn's retreating figure.
"why doesn't marla hang out with us?" jack shrugged his shoulders. "she's always with victory hayes and teddy monrae. those three are inseparable!" journey tossed her muffin wrapper into the trash can, uninterested in flora and jack's conversation.
she was spaced out and didn't notice jonah marais and daniel seavey walking towards the table. "there they are!" zach exclaimed. jonah wrapped his arms around journey's waist, surprising the eighteen year old. "good morning."
journey smiled up at her boyfriend, "hey, jo." flora turned to face daniel. "so, i hear you're searching for some mystery girl."
