Chapter 1

"I don't like this soup, it tastes like ass." I said turning up my noise in disgust, the head monk looked at me unimpressed.
"Mimi did you remember to pray today!" One of the youngest monks- rei, looked up at me, a bright smile plastered on his face. I chuckled and flicked his nose. He scrunched up his face and went back to eating his soup.

For as long as I know I've been living in a temple, surrounded by male monks and as if that wasn't enough torture, our temple was in the middle of nowhere. I sighed and  poked my spoon around my bowl. Rei, who had just turned 10 was like a little brother to me, he was the only person in this temple that treated me like a human being. His kind spirit and happiness is what kept me on my feet, my favourite joke was to slap his bald head- even though I'd be shouted at by the head monk later on. Rei would defend me every time though, saying that he stirred me up by causing mischief- despite the fact it was almost always me that made trouble around here.

"Mimi- I heard that you're taking the entrance exam for the true cross academy!"
"Rei! Shut up!" I slapped the back of his head had to stop myself from bursting into laughter.
"What is this all about?" The head monk lifted his head, a scowl placed on his face.  I knew immediately that this wasn't going to end well.
"W-Well I wanted to go and study at the true cross academy next fall..."
"Why? Are our teachings not enough?" The anger radiating from him was heavy but was just irritating me nevertheless.
"N-No! That's not it! I just wanted-"
"What?! What did you want?!" The head monk raised his voice, not giving me a chance to even finish my sentence.
"I want to go and study to become an exorcist!" I shouted, the whole room became silent, all the monks who were previously eating suddenly stopped and were staring at me.

"Pfft don't make me laugh, you? An exorcist!?"
"That was unnecessarily rude." I snapped, my temper becoming unmanageable, I tried to remain calm though. I hated shouting in front of rei- I knew it only scared him.

"You're not going. End of discussion."
"Why? All I want to do is protect the temple so that no more demons terrify us."
"There is no need to do that, the temple is already perfectly safe." I couldn't believe my ears.

"The night of the Scarlett nightmare happened the same night you were born shinimi, your mother was possessed by a demon and set the whole temple alight before, we monks think her body wasn't strong enough for the demon so she ended up dying...but thank god you were ok...we found you in her arms. I guess the last bit of human in her wanted to protect you."

"I wanna become big and strong so that no ones mommy dies! Demons are evil!"

"Your mother was very beautiful Shinimi."

The flashback replayed in my head from when I was a little girl for some reason. It was almost like it was reminding me the reason I wanted to become an exorcist in the first place. After that monk had told me the story of how my mother died, I found out about exorcists and more importantly the knights of the true cross, I wanted to become one of them, so I'd be able to protect the people around me. But more importantly I'd make sure that Rei was safe and would never get hurt. 

"Well what about 16 years ago! My mother died because of that demon! I have no family because of those demons! I don't want anyone else to be taken-"
"SHINIMI ENOUGH YOU ARE THE REASON YOUR MOTHER DIED!"

I suddenly couldn't breathe, my rage was so overwhelming that my body couldn't react. "E-Excuse me?" I said, my voice barely a whisper.
"Shinimi do you know the reason barely anyone talks to you? Or why they all treat you like a monster?"
"What?" My voice trembled hopelessly. Suddenly I stood up and sprinted out of the room, I couldn't feel my legs and I had to get some fresh air, my only hope was to clear my head and set my thoughts straight.

My whole body felt like it was going to explode, my feet couldn't hold me up for much longer as my head was spinning.
"Big sis!" Rei's voice echoed in my ears. I regained balance and looked at Rei who was only a few feet away from me.

I was blinded by my own unnatural rage and let out a scream, it suddenly felt like my whole body was on fire, every nerve ending burned in an inexplicable way. The head monk suddenly appeared behind Rei, whose eyes had suddenly become glazed over with fear.

All of a sudden red flames burst out from the head monks eyes and mouth and he began speaking with a voice that made my spine shiver. 
"Looks like you've finally awoken my child."
"Call the exorcist!" Shouted a monk all of a sudden, attracting the attention of the posessed head monk. 
 "Oh I don't think that will be nessesary, me and my darling Shinimi are going to quickly talk and then I'll despose of this useless body."

My mind couldn't process what was going on, it was as if time had stopped and I was being flooded by thoughts. I was scared but also furious, my instinct was telling me that this was someone familiar but something didn't feel right. The soft cold winter breeze tickled my cheeks as I heard blood splatter onto the stone floor. 
"Who are you?" 
"I'm you daddy, but to others I'm asmodeus, it's a pleasure to finally meet you." It was strange to hear the head monk talking in that deranged voice, furthermore his irises were a bright red. The sight before me was truly demonic. 
"As-ASMODEUS!? You're one of the demon kings- That's impossible!"
"You're such a bore, I really have other things to attend to...but, my dear you can't go walking around all firey and shit now that you've unlocked your powers...Hmmm..." 

What did he mean? I looked down at my body to see it covered in scarlet flames, my breath hitched in my throat. Whilst he looked deep in thought I glanced back at Rei who was staggering back, he looked absolutely terrified of me. But what could I say? I had just broken any trust I had with any of the monks in this temple, they all now had their suspicions confirmed. I was a monster. 

"Ah here we go!" Asmodeus cried out again, laughing demonically as he pulled something out of a glowing red pentagram that had formed itself on the ground. He held out a little dagger with was embezzled with a round red ruby gem. "Now all you need to do it put a drop of blood on that dagger and look what happens!" He snatched my hand and made a small cut, I winced and watched as the blood seeped onto the ruby. There was a burst of flames and suddenly the tiny dagger had turned itself into a long scarlet coloured kitana blade. 

I widened my eyes and tried to regulate my breathing, my eyes flickered again to everyone behind him, some of the monks were struggling to escape, some were staying to watch and others looked like they were going to die. "As my dear, as soon as you want to turn it back into an incey wincey blade again, all you have to do is lick the blood off the ruby."
"Wait! I don't-"
"Bye bye now! Try not to lose control...the vaticans on it's way...tata!" That was the last thing I heard from him, then the lifeless body of the head monk fell to the ground. My legs instantly gave way and I crumbled onto the stones beneath me, with the last bit of energy I had I looked up.

"Rei..." 

"STAY AWAY FROM ME YOU DEMON!" He screamed at the top of his lungs.
