As Beauty Unfolds

Chapter 1

And so, the shenanigans begin ;) 

A girl pulled a key out of her jacket pocket, unlocking the door to room 235 in the university girl's dorm. As she walked inside, she shoved the black trash bag in her hand into the corner of her side of the room. 

She slowly removed the hood of her jacket, letting her long, tangled brown hair fall to her waist. In the process of this she took her earbuds out, the slight sound of heavy guitars and drums fading as she set them on her bed along with her cell phone. Her eyes began scanning the small space, taking in the details.

Her faceless roommate had already claimed the other side of the room, which she didn't mind, all except for the boxes that littered the floor. 

She wondered what type of experience college would be for her. With a shrug she rolled up the sleeves of her hoodie and bent down to begin unpacking her stuff. 

As she began to pull some plants in glass jars out of a cardboard box, someone began fiddling with the handle of the door from the other side. 

As it swung open, she slowly stood, curious to see her roommate. 

Staring back at her was a gorgeous white-blonde Asian girl dressed in a plain white t-shirt, ripped pink jeans, and a pair of pastel blue converse. The shorter girl looked up to meet her gaze with an excited grin. 

"Hi! Omg, you must be my new roommate! I hope you don't mind that I already brought my stuff in. I'm Elaine!" the blonde exclaimed, sticking her hand out to greet the quiet girl.

The edges of the girl's lips perked slightly and she took the hand of the friendly Asian in front of her. 

"I'm Leilani! I'm glad to meet you and hope we have a wonderful year together." she said in a surprisingly lower voice for a girl. Elaine let her go, and spun around before clapping her hands. 

"Oh, there's no need to be so formal! Call me Laine." Lei nodded shyly. Laine plopped down on the bed she had chosen and sighed. 

"Man, moving in is tiring. I can't wait to have all our stuff out so we don't have to worry about it anymore." she said lazily and she scratched the back of her head. 

Leilani nodded quietly, turning back to her plants. She picked them up, setting each on the windowsill till four little plants gazed at the sunlight streaming in. 

"I hope you don't mind, but I like to keep living things wherever I go." Lei said softly as she pulled a clear spray bottle from another box. 

"Oh, I don't mind at all. In fact, I bet they will brighten our little room, just a bit at least." but Laine was much more occupied with her phone that anything else at that moment. 

Lei went to the sink in the bathroom and filled the small spray bottle before returning to her little plants. She smiled fondly at them, stroking the little white flowers in one of the jars. As she did so it perked up a little more, as if responding to her touch. As she sprayed each plant gently, a thought that she had forgotten returned to her mind. 

"Oh, Laine."

"Hm?"

"Since I call you by a nickname, I would like you to call me Lei."

"Lei it is then!"
