Haley

The next day like Archer said, he was off to work. I woke up at nine and he already left. That guy is a total workaholic- I have noticed that for a while now. His phone is always ringing, if he's not with me he's in the office. He can basically live in his office for months if he wanted to. I wonder about his social life. I never questioned about his social or relationship status as I don't want to cross the professional boundaries. I believe I have already crossed it by living here.

Mrs.Nolan greeted me in the kitchen and said she will make me some sandwiches.

"No, thank you." I said not really in a mood to eat breakfast. I usually don't eat breakfast and goes all out for lunch.

She didn't seem please at my refusal, but didn't say anything else. "Mr.Rivera said you wanted to look around the city.." she started.

"You don't really have to.. I can manage." I smiled. I'm sure she have better things to do than accompany a stranger.

"I would love to." She said.

"Are you sure? I don't want you to feel pressurize into showing me around."

"I would love to." She said.

"Perfect. Where are we going? What time?" I was excited.

"We can go now if you would like.." she give me a small smile.

"Can we take subway or buses?" I asked.

"Grant will be driving us around." She said. "Mr.Rivera's order."

"Shouldn't he be in the office? That will be no fun." I said. "Pretty please? Let's take the subway!!"

She was reluctant but smiled, "I'm not sure how Mr.Rivera will take in the information and Grant stayed back to drive us around."

"We should be fine on our own." I said. "If we take the subway, we don't need Grant to come. Do we?"

"No." She said. "But I still have to let him know or he will wait.."

"Sure." I said. "I will go and get ready." I was excited about the start of the day.

When I stepped out. I see Grant and Mrs.Nolan whispering at each other. Grant seemed a little frustrated over there.

"Hello Grant." I said to him. "Good morning."

"Ms.Lynne." He give me a nod.

"Haley." I corrected him.

"Haley." He said. "Mr.Rivera has made it clear that I follow Mrs.Nolan and you..."

"To keep an eye on me?" I scowled. I didn't mean to be rude to him, but I was not happy with what I was hearing. I thought he trusted me.

"No." He said looking away. It was like he was hiding something, but I could be wrong.

"Mrs.Nolan and I will be fine." I said to him.

"I still don't think it's a good idea. Ms-Haley." Grant said.

"I will speak to him, now." I said as I reached for my phone. What's wrong with him?

He picked up the call at the third ring.

"Haley." He greeted. "Good morning."

"Did you leave Grant here to keep an eye on me?" I hissed quietly moving away from them, so they wouldn't hear me talking to him like that. I'm sure they will find it unfair how I get to talk to him like that and they don't. I don't understand his way of thinking.

"No." He said. "He's there to show you around with Mrs.Nolan."

"Mrs.Nolan and I would like to go by ourselves. You do trust Mrs.Nolan, don't you? She will keep an eye on me if that's what you are worried about."

I heard him take a deep breath. "That's not what I had in mind." He said. "I told you I trust you."

"You clearly don't." I snapped.

"Haley." He said. "You need to trust me this time. Let Grant come with you guys."

"Why?" I asked.

"Please." He said. "I don't ask often, so please do not push me."

"Mrs.Nolan and I will be taking subways and buses."

"No." He hissed this time. "Grant will drive."

"Excuse me, Mr.Rivera. I get you are guilty that I'm in this position, that's why you are being like this but I'm fine with it-for now. You don't have to feel guilty about anything and you don't have to force yourself to do something that you don't like to do."

"Can you stop being so challenging?" He snapped.

"I thought you found it entertaining."

"Not at the moment. Please let Grant come with you."

"Okay, Fine." I said giving into him.

"Stay safe." He said and for a moment I thought he ended the call, but I see him still in line.

"Thanks and you too. Have a good day."

Grant seemed to know what the conversation would be like or will end up like. "I will get the car ready." He said once I was back.

"Thank you." I said in appreciation. I see Mrs.Nolan with her bag and was ready to head out as well.

Grant was driving the sedan while Mrs. Nolan sat in the front. I wanted to sit in the front, but she went in first.

"Where would you like to go first?" He asked me.

"Anywhere." I said.

"We could go to the Brooklyn bridge first and then head for lunch. She didn't eat breakfast, yet." Mrs.Nolan announced.

Why did she have to tell him that? Mrs.Nolan is a good tour guide. She explained the history and then shared her story with her time here and I took pictures to send it to my friends and family.

For lunch, we had pizzas. It was delicious- the rest of the day we tour around the places and on our way home, we passed Whistler. It's bigger than the one in Seattle and have way many more buildings. It was four-thirty and I wondered what time he was coming home. I shake that thought, why would I want to know that.

"It's a big place." I said to them looking at the building.

"Yes. Mr.Rivera is very proud of his company." Mrs.Nolan said. "He worked hard to built the company. He was a teenager when he started the company.."

My mind was blown away by the information.

"Teenager?"

"Around his high school time, he was always bright as a kid."

I took in whatever information that she was willing to share with me and noted in my mind.
