"Thanks, Ben. Sorry this was such a waste of time."
"It's okay. We'll track him down. He has to be around here somewhere, he wouldn't of gone far. I'll have some people start an under-cover search. Just... stay safe, okay?"
"Yeah." She said, adjusting her jacket as she stepped off of the bike, Ben staying on.
"We can wipe Lauren's memory of all of this, as soon as it's all taken care of, okay?"
"I know. I just..."
"Don't want to. I get it, that it'd be easier for her to know about all of this. But you know we can't do that. It's not just for your safety, it's for hers. See what happened when other agents got involved?" He asked as Harper nodded. "I'm sorry, Harper."
"I know." She said, giving him a nod as he nodded back. As he pulled out of the driveway, heading down the street, Harper walked up to the front door. She unlocked it with a spare key, and then entered the house, shutting the door behind her.
She kicked the shoes from her feet and flicked on a light switch. As she walked towards the kitchen, she caught a glimpse of herself in a mirror hanging on the wall. Blood splattered on her shirt- some on her face, and some stained to her hands. She gave a small sigh, seeing her disheveled state and took off her jacket, hanging it on the wall.
"Lauren? We need to talk, okay?" She called out, heading into the kitchen, when she saw papers spread out on the counter. "No. No no no no no-" She said, rushing to the counter as she began to shuffle through them quickly, sliding them around. It was her file, printed out. The folder Lauren had, this was it. Adam gave it to her.
She crumpled some of the papers in her hands, blankly staring at them as she tried to think, tried to process what was going on. Then, she turned around. She realized what was so off when she got home. Asher. Cinnamon. Lauren. They were all gone.
The bags of pet food were mixing on the ground. The dog food bag was knocked over, the cat food entirely gone. Pet dishes were gone, and pet toys. Lauren's shoes, purse, keys, jacket- they were all missing by the front door. Gone.
"Lauren? Lauren, this isn't funny. Lauren!" She kept screaming, running up the stairs. She began searching rooms. Harper's room, the mess and chaos untouched.
"Lauren?!"
Harper's office, nothing was missing.
"Lauren!"
The bathroom, all of Lauren's belongings were gone. Her shampoo and conditioner, her toothbrush. Even half of the towels were gone.
"LAUREN!"
She made it into Lauren's bedroom to see... emptiness. She flicked the light switch on and fully stepped in, looking around. Empty. The bedsheets from her bed were gone, just the mattress was left, half-way hanging off of the bed frame. Her closet was left in shambles, totes and boxes were knocked over, emptied. All that was left hanging was a few old, unwearable shirts and empty hangers. Some hangers were just thrown to the ground of the closet, spread out randomly, as if thrown in a rush. The stand that was underneath her hanging TV was emptied of video games and consoles, and DVD player and DVD's. The TV itself was there, but everything to go with it had disappeared. A second tornado hit this house this week, but this tornado wasn't as forgiving. It was as if someone robbed Harper blind, but only of the things that would remind her of her best friend.
She had begun to realize, she may have been too late in getting her back. Suddenly, she heard whimpering.
"Asher?" She called out, when she heard it coming from under the bed. She ducked down to see Asher whimpering in fear under the bed frame, a piece of paper stuck into his collar. As soon as he saw it was Harper, he ran out from under the bed, attacking her, shoving her to the ground. He began to bark and playfully bite, licking her.
