Pebbles and concrete crunched under the car's tires as it approached a large government building, far away from civilization. The car stopped at the front doors, where Gram stepped out and adjusted his suit.
"Where are we?" Lauren asked, stepping out behind him and following close behind.
"The agency that Harper has worked at for a decade." Gram said, giving her a glance before continuing inside. Lauren looked around as she walked briskly behind Gram, taking in the building she never knew existed. With a quick pass through security and the metal detectors, they moved through corridor after corridor, elevator after elevator, and door after door.
Eventually, Gram halted at a quick stop, as Gram pulled out a key ring from his pocket and unlocked the door. Gram stepped in, relocking the door as Lauren followed behind him, confused.
"Where are we going?" She asked, in which he didn't respond. Gram continued through another long hallway that lead to two splitting hallways. He took a right, to find an elevator that took three different key cards to open. They entered, Gram picked the top floor, and stood as they awaited for the door to close, and the elevator to slowly start rising upwards. He watched closely as the screen displaying numbers counted upwards, along with the machine.
"Mr. Gram? Where are we going? What's going on?" She continued to ask, as Gram stood silently, watching the numbers. "Gram-" She began, when the door opened, and Gram rushed out of the elevator, Lauren running after him.
Suddenly, they were met with another group of security, and other agents.
"You-" Gram started, pointing at a group of men in suits and a secretary. "Meet Lauren Queens. She's Harper's friend. Take her to Harper's office, and keep her there until I give a personal say-so. Understood?"
"Understood, sir."
"Gram, wait-" Lauren began, as Gram started walking away from her. "Please, don't lie to me too. Tell me what's going on." She asked, as he stopped on his heel, turning to her slowly.
"We're going to get Harper back. You just have to trust me." He said, before quickly turning around and continuing down the hallway. The secretary and the suits began leading her towards Harper's office as Gram made his way towards another elevator.
After another few minutes of navigating the large building, Ben found himself in his office. He walked over to his desk and began digging through files, cabinets, and drawers, looking for something. He looked up in thought, and suddenly paused for a moment when his eyes caught a framed picture on his desk.
A photo of himself, Harper, and her father. Harper was in her late teens, smiling, but had confusion and uncomfortableness on her face. Her father looked numb, without emotion. His hair was cut short, a void-like black with a beginning of salt and pepper, with a 5 o'clock shadow. His arms were crossed in a neatly-ironed light grey suit, perfectly tailored for him.
Ben shook his head, taking his eyes away from the frame and back to the subject at hand, searching for what he had been looking for- a small, shiny silver key. He opened another drawer, searching inside when he found a box of staples. He flipped the container over, where a small keyhole was located. He entered the key into the hole and turned it, when suddenly the walls that were behind the desk began to shift and open. Panels flipped, revealing a huge archive of filing cabinets, and high tech armor and weapons such as grenades, assault rifles, a range of bullets, and even things like flamethrowers.
"Alright, Ben. It's only been... a decade since your last real mission. No big deal." He sighed, putting his hands on his hips as he squinted at the weapons through a cloud of falling dust, which he had to cough through as he approached.
