"There!" Officer Samantha Drew shouted as the assailant they were after rounded the corner and ran down an alleyway. With adrenaline pumping, the squad car screeched to a halt as the police officers jumped out and rushed after the man they had been following for most of the day. There had been an anonymous tip that he was handling a new and very expensive drug and finally, Samantha and her colleague Officer Tony Steele had gathered enough evidence to lock him away - all they needed to do was catch him.
Samantha began to take the lead in the chase, closing the gap between herself and Riley, the drug dealer. Dressed head to toe in cheap sportswear, it was almost as if he was being sponsored by the brand as he athletically leapt over some fly tipping and dodged a large bin. Samantha shifted around a pile of bin bags and made a mental note that she needed to report the state of the alleyway, which had everything from furniture to clothes shoved along the walls like a bad boot sale display.
Riley gave a smug smile to the officers as he energetically scaled a metal gate. Tony skidded to a halt, letting out a sigh.

"Just let him go. We'll get him another time." He said despondently. Samantha chose to ignore him, the sadness in Tony's voice only spurring her on more. She leapt to the top of a bin, using this to give her the height she needed to scale the gate too. She landed gracefully, which she thanked her parents for after forcing her to take gymnastics as a child. Riley, stunned by the display, took a moment to register what had just happened and within this time, had been caught by Samantha. She pushed him up against the wall, his chest feeling the cold hit of the wet bricks as she yanked his hands behind his back.

"You're under arrest for the possession and distribution of a Class A drug." Samantha began the speech she'd memorised so much as she handcuffed him.

"That's where you're wrong, sweetheart." Riley responded, his signature smirk plastered on his face. He was weirdly calm, which set Samantha on edge. Normally, they're kicking and screaming at them about their innocence and how this is wrong. Riley just stood there, without a spec of sweat on his brow, smiling at her.

"I don't think so." Samantha tried to play it cool, like her gut wasn't knotted in anxiety about what could happen next. At least she had Tony on her side, right? Looking over to the other side of the fence, Tony was now nowhere to be seen. Samantha's stomach dropped.

"Tell her Tony." Riley said cockily and before she knew it, Tony was beside her shoving her aside. He pulled the keys from his belt and unlocked the cuffs, freeing Riley in front of her.

"Look, me and him have an arrangement." Tony shrugged, to which Riley pulled an envelope out of his jacket and smacked it into Tony's hands.

"You're joking right? You're working with this criminal?!" Samantha couldn't believe her eyes and ears. Her partner was a dirty cop. Tony shrugged, unbothered.

"This new drug is the craze right now. The cut I get from Riley is more than my monthly wage. I can live the life I always dreamt of having." Tony's face mirrored the smirk on Riley's. Samantha shook her head in disgust, her hand remaining near her weapon in case it was needed.

"We've got evidence that proves this drug is a danger to people's lives." Samantha tried to talk him out of it, knowing he'd say through all the updates.

"There's no price on my happiness and a large wad of cash." Tony said, not realising that he sounded heartless. Countless people who had taken this drug had been hospitalised and he didn't care.

"You won't get away with this." Samantha snarled, upset that someone in her role could go against everything they knew and work with the criminal. Tony let out a patronising laugh.

"But I have been. For ages. You're not going to stop it. Who are they going to believe? Me, the perfect cop who has worked there for years, or the new girl who will have the drug in her locker?" Tony patted his top pocket. Samantha grabbed her radio quickly, calling for base. Tony drew his gun and held it to her forehead, silencing her. "Think carefully. You can get shot by Riley as he escapes and lose your life, get fired for having the drug in your locker... Or he can accidentally get away." Samantha hesitated as she thought it over, base radioing her to check she was okay. She sighed.

"Base, this is officer Drew. The assailant got away."
