Words like a loaded gun
Shot out from a fire tongue
Love lost from a fight that was won
And I can see you breaking down
The end to a falling out

*Nick POV*

I didn’t even realise it was happening til it was over. It was one of those things I never imagined would actually occur and the second it did I wanted to wish to go far away from anything related to that moment. Everything had been so good, perfect almost. Of course things could never be perfect that was unrealistic but they were close. I was settled, content and more important so was she. I had watched her grow and build into a young woman and be the person she always wanted to be. The girl she wished she was when she a teenager. She had changed completely, that didn’t stop the small relapses every now and then but they also made her stronger every time. I had been there from the start, I saw every crack, every fragile part of her skin be torn and yet I couldn’t stop it. I couldn’t get involved because if I did she’d push me away. I had to watch and wait for her to realise she was worth more. I prayed, I prayed that she’d see herself the way I saw her. Her beauty was glowing and it showed no matter how she tried to destroy herself. She was still as beautiful now; she just grew up and brought her beauty and wisdom alongside her. I didn’t realise I had been sitting in my car with the music turned off and the heating blaring until I unfocused from my daydream. The rain was hitting heavily against my windscreen on my SUV and it was in that moment I realised I had messed up. I had messed up one of the best friendships I ever had with someone. Demi and me have always been close and no matter what conflict happened between her and Joe she never once blamed me, she always kept us separate and I was grateful for that. Growing up alongside someone was hard, and being best friends with someone who was so troubled wasn’t easy, it was difficult yet she hid it so well unless she slipped up just once you never knew. That’s how I found out, it wasn’t because she wanted me too it was because she was breaking over Joe. She had finally had it. We had been touring and filming at the same time and she just couldn’t it anymore. She had seen him acting like he was fine, and it then she realised she really was just publicity to help his, our career further.

*Flashback 6 years ago*

“Dem…” Nick searched the darkened arena stage; he knew Demi had sneaked out here. He’d heard her sniffles that he knew were evidently hers and also saw the dark black hair go into the door that led to where he was standing.

“Dems, it’s okay I promise, it’s only me” he couldn’t help but fear whatever she had done. He had never seen her rush so fast past all her team, even her own family to run into an abandoned, dark room. Was that normal was his first thought? How often did she just sit alone and in the dark? All these thoughts processed too quickly in his mind until he searched around the corner and found her sitting on the edge of the stage in the corner; her legs were dangling and gently swinging. She didn’t look up once, not when he sat down next to her, not when he took her hand in his and held it as tightly as he could without hurting her. He knew she needed him, whether she’d admit it or not, he knew it. She always needed someone to tell her things would be okay and right now he was fine being that guy. He wanted to protect her and take every single painful memory out of her brain; to save her from the torture her mind would put her through. The reason behind the darkness that lay deep in her pupils.

“I know you feel alone, but you’re not alone” he whispered into her ear. He knew telling her personally would maybe make the statement seem more real. His eyes pierced through hers as she turned her head to face him. His own guilt was building up. His brother was responsible for her being this way. He wished he could sort things out but he couldn’t.
