Tanners POV
I woke up in the chair, my back aching from staying like that all night. My brother was still cuddled up to my unconscious mother. It truly killed me to see her like that. I looked away before seeing the TV was on.
I saw the headlines and my jaw dropped.
The reporter followed up with "A horrible car wreck last night leaving one dead, and another hospitalized. Steven McCray was found dead at the scene with multiple wounds to the head and lungs. His wife Sally McCray in the intensive care unit in critical condition."
The words from the reporter sounded so fake. Like he didn't even care, it sickened me. I couldn't handle much more of this.
"Being parents of two, this will most likely mean their children will be orphans by tomorrow. Calvin back to you." I switched the channel off. I laid my head into my hands slowly letting out tiny breaths between cries.
I stop to the sound of Christian waking up, I could feel his eyes on me as I quickly wiped my tears.
"Mornin' buddy." I plastered a fake smile.
"Morning.." He said kissing moms pale hands.
"You okay?" I said.
"No, I'm not. How could I be? My mothers laying here.." He looked away and started to cry. I pulled his head to my stomach and cried with him.
I don't blame him for crying, I feel the pain too. But I can't show it. I have to be strong, I have to be strong for him. Even if I don't want to be strong myself.
"Tanner?" He said
"Yeah?" I gasped trying to catch my breath while crying.
"I miss them already." He said, not breaking away from my embrace.
I couldn't even speak, I just stood there. Looking down at him, while he was still tucked into my strong hold.
