Letting out a sigh, you ran a hand through your hair before swinging your legs over the side of the bed. Sunlight peeked through the thin curtains in your room, lighting it up softly. A small clock to your left read 6:10, almost an hour before you normally got up.

"Well... might as well shower and freshen up a bit. Today will be a long day." You thought before humming. Grabbing the towel draped over a desk chair, you walked down to the showers, thankful to be the only one in there.

You were supposed to go to the commander's office later on today after breakfast. He apparently wanted to talk to you about something important.

-

Letting out a soft 'tch', you turned the water on and soon enough hot water soothed your aching muscles.

"Ahhh... that's the stuff." You moaned as you weaved your fingers through your hair, wetting it even more. Too soon, the water turned cold, and it was the end of your shower. Wrapping the towel around your head, you ruffled it around to get out any excess water before patting off your body with it. Pulling on a fresh set of underwear and a bra, you pulled back the privacy screen only to meet with a pair of light brown eyes staring at your own from across the bathroom.

Letting out a squeal, you pulled the curtain back to cover your body, your cheek flushing a deep shade of red.

"I...I shouldn't be embarrassed by that! This is the women's bathroom after all! But... she was staring right at me when I pulled the curtain back... not creepy at all." You thought, slapping a hand to your forehead before pulling back on your sleep shirt. Once you heard the curtains and shower start in another stall, you slowly pulled back your own and left the bathroom, the blush still evident on your cheeks.

Maneuvering around in the halls, you managed to get back to your own 'dorm' without being spotted by any males of any sort. Gritting your teeth, you stripped your shirt once more and dug around in your dresser, producing a pair of light grey pants and a white button-down shirt. Pulling them on, a slight breeze blew through the cracked window in your room. It was so warm and reminded you of being back home.

Home.

"Can't ever go back there now, can I? Not when it's demolished to pieces. I wonder how Eren and Armin are doing." You thought, before speaking out loud, "I hope they haven't got themselves into too much trouble."

Glancing over your shoulder at the clock once more, you decided to go down to the banquet hall and grab a bite to eat.

-

Buttering up a slice of toast, you listened to the room grow louder, more and more people standing around you before returning to their seats with a hot cup of coffee or some sort of meal bar. Suddenly, an arm slung around your shoulder, making you drop the knife in your hand.

"Hiya, (Y/n)!" The voice cooed, turning you around. Aine, your "childhood" best friend, was in front of you, a familiar smirk on her face. Childhood wasn't really the correct term, but it would do. You had known her when you both were younger, but when her parents split and her dad took her, you never saw her again until joining the Survey Corps.

"W..what? What's with that face?" You said worriedly, placing the knife in the basin before grabbing your toast and coffee and heading to sit at one of the more empty benches.

"Nothing..." She sang, plopping down next to you, which made you raise an eyebrow.

"Something is up. What is it?" You deadpanned, taking a huge bite out of your toast, wanting to get to the commander's office sooner, rather than later.

"Might be later..." You thought with a chuckle.

"A little birdie told me the commander wanted to see you! How special! Maybe you got chosen for squad Levi, ooh, or maybe..." Aine droned on, automatically blocking her out.

"I probably got in trouble for something." You snorted out after a few moments, inhaling the scent of your coffee before downing it.

"Wha- you never get in trouble though!" Aine yelled out to the banquet hall, the chatter dying down for a second as all the eyes came to stare at you. A bright blush erupted on your face, smacking your friend's arm harshly before standing up and putting the coffee cup in the basin.

"(Y/n)! Your toast!" Aine yelled after you, perplexed on why you had left without finishing breakfast. Throwing a hand over your shoulder, you waved it off while walking towards the staircase.

"Eat the rest of it. I don't care."

-

Approaching the commander's door, you inhaled sharply, negative thoughts flooding your mind as you raised your hand to knock at the door.

Before you could even knock, a voice echoed from behind the thick, oak doors.

"Name and business."

"Ca...Cadet (l/n) sir! You called me here..." you stuttered our, silently cursing yourself for stuttering. A soft "come in" echoed, letting you know it was ok to proceed. Pushing open the heavy doors, you were met with three people.

"Co..commander Erwin, sir!" You said, saluting him.

"At ease, (Y/n). There's no need for formalities here." Erwin said, dismissing you as your hand fell, but your face twisted with confusion.

"Sir, if you don't mind me asking, why was I called here?" You inquired as he motioned you to sit across from him, the two people behind him staring at you in two different ways. You only recognized one of them.

"You graduated top of your class academically, am I wrong?" He asked, shuffling the papers in his hand, not watching you squirm around in the chair.

"Yes. I did."

"And you seem to be from where the breach happened a couple of years back, nonetheless," Erwin said, his gaze moving to lock with yours once more. Shuffling awkwardly, you nodded.

"Very well. The reason I called you in here is that I want you to switch squads. Niko already knows about the situation, and after some difficulties pleading with him, he's agreed to let you switch over. You're a vital piece in our complex puzzle, Miss (l/n)."

You'd never thought you'd have to move squadrons, leave all your friends behind. Nothing. You were really hoping you were in trouble, but that didn't seem to be the case.

"To...to who's squad would I be moving to?" You asked, fiddling with a strand of hair.

"Squad Hanji." Erwin said, the female behind him stepping forward and resting a hand on his chair, a smile gracing her features.

"Nice to meet you, (Y/n). I'm Hanji."

A/N: I swear I do not intend on leaving an a/n at the end of every chapter lol. I just wanted to make sure everything is understandable so far, and in case any of you didn't read the previous filler chapter, this book will not follow the AOT plotline whatsoever. I do intend to include key aspects of the anime though. Some things may be confusing at first, which I will clear up, so don't worry
