DELILAH'S POV
"Thanks B" I say for the hundredth time today.
"Don't mention it" he kisses my cheek.
I smile and hop out of the car then wave as he drives off. What a day I think to myself as I step into the house.
As soon as I'm at the bottom of the stairs I feel a pair of hands holding onto my legs and I let out a squeal. I look down and see the twins.
"Del you don't play with us anymore" Carolina pouts.
"Yeah" Christina agrees.
"Aww my babies" I coo. I sit on the last step and put each one on a separate lap.
"I'm sorry guys, things have been a bit hard lately"
"We guessed as much, you didn't eat this morning, are you okay?"
Carolina asks.Right then I swear my heart almost melted. I really felt like I had two little sisters who i loved more than anything.
"Okay, how about we do something this weekend?" I compromise. "Just us sisters, how does that sound?"
"I'd love that" Christina claps. Carolina nods in agreement.
"Alright ladies it's nine o'clock, you know what to do" Melissa calls from the top of the stairs.
Christina hugs me and runs to jump on her mum. Carolina hesitates but she hugs me too and whispers in my ear "I'm sorry you've been sad, I love you" and she kisses my cheek.
"Baby I love you too, thank you". I hug her back and give her a big kiss on the nose which makes her giggle. So adorable I think to myself.
She runs up and jumps straight into her mum's arms. I can't help but feel a pang of jealousy. They're love was evident in volumes. You just couldn't miss it.
I'm still sitting on the last steps lost in thought when I hear my name being called. I turn around and see Melissa behind me, the twins had already gone to bed.
"Carolina said something about me forgetting to wish my eldest daughter good night" she smiles at me and the warmth and love it radiates is so genuine that I have to blink back the tears that threaten to pour down again.
I let out a small laugh and she opens her arm wide. I graciously let her envelope me in her loving embrace. This right here, feels like home.
She pulls back a bit and kisses my forehead. "Good night Delilah". With that she gives me one last squeeze and makes her way up to her room. I couldn't be more grateful.
I plop back down on the stairs again and lean my head on the railing. I would have actually slept there if my phone hadn't rang. I looked at the screen, it was my mum, face timing me at 11pm. Wow, I'd been here for two hours. I didn't mind so I quickly picked the call.
"My baby" she coos.
"Hey mama" I smile back. "You look tired" I say, noticing the purple bags under her eyes.
She sighs and my heart almost breaks for her. "It's just work sweetie, nothing your mama can't handle" she smiles. "Now enough about me, how have you been, how's Devonte" she asks wiggling her eyebrows.
"Oh God" I laugh as I slap my forehead. "I've been doing good and Devonte's doing just fine." I smile as my thoughts wander to him, I hadn't even seen him since lunch.
"You're thinking about him aren't you?" My mother says with a knowing smile.
"Don't even start" I say narrowing my eyes at her. She just laughs.
