"I can't believe your family sends you treats from Spain." Ruby Rose shakes her head and laughs amused while I fix the mosquito net, making sure that it covers the whole bed perfectly. She asked me what the hell I hid in the box my family sent me after we finished dinner and I had no choice but to show her and I even let her try some of my chocolate and peanut cookies.

"Your mum doesn't send you treats from Australia?" My guest tilts her head to one side, thinking before nodding reluctantly.

"Sometimes, there're some sweets I love but they're hard to find in LA."

"Well, it's even harder when you live on a tiny island in the middle of the sea. They not only send me treats, sometimes also food or traditional products I can't find here, small presents, magazines, my nephews' crafts from their kindergarten classes, my grandma sends me socks and underwear... everything they can think of. I can't visit them often so I get a parcel every two months, more or less. I've told them a thousand of times that's not necessary but they love to do it and I feel very excited when I get a present from home." I sit down on the mattress, sliding under the sheet with great care... I don't want to touch Ruby, even if the bed is big I don't want her to feel awkward, the situation is weird enough as it is but she seems to be cool with it. She really enjoyed dinner, the sunset was stunning as always and she was able to talk to her mum and even sent her some pics from the beach while I was in the bathroom putting my pyjamas on. Suddenly, some images of an airport on the TV catch my eye and I turn the volume up with the remote.

"... USA and Canada airports are closing and low air traffic in these countries.... The virus spreads across the world... the number of infected and deaths will increase drastically... Quarantine and social distance..." I turn off the TV quietly and drop the remote on the nightstand before lying down. The sound of soft waves crashing on the beach echoes through the cabin, relaxing, I usually sleep with the doors open to enjoy the scent of the sea although the sunlight wakes me up too early sometimes... There is no crime on this island, maybe a couple of wallets from tourists vanish from time to time, but nobody closes their doors. Ruby didn't care when I told her because she wears a mask and besides, she loved the idea of hearing the waves while falling asleep.

"The world is going crazy..." my guest whispers making herself comfortable near my body. "My mum is happy because I'm stuck in a small and isolated island, she's said that LA is too crowded and is dangerous..." I raise my head abruptly.

"Where are your dogs?" Ruby turns her head and looks at me surprised before bursting into laughing.

"They're with Chris, don't' worry, he'll take good care of them... that's his job."

"Okay, fine... I'd forgotten about them... I can't believe it... How could I forget about Ru, Charlie and Chance?" I grumble angrily while falling back on the mattress again. Suddenly, my guest's tattooed hand touches mine that's leaned on my waist gently and I remain still, holding back my breath.

"Thank you, Iselen, for everything... I don't know what I'd do without you, honestly, I was terrified and you came out of nowhere like an angel falling from the sky. I've been very lucky." I swallow hard while my cheeks burn of embarrassment and answer stuttering shyly.

"You're welcome, Ruby Rose... sleep tight."

I can't believe those words came out of my mouth, it's amazing that she's here, in my bed... despite it's been a day full of intense emotions I don't know if I'll be able to sleep although it try to remain still because I don't want to disturb her. My life has become surrealist... The day started as a nightmare because of a virus that has locked up half of humanity in their homes, my family included, I was really worried about them and about my friends on this island too... But suddenly, it turned into a dream because Ruby was there, looking extremely beautiful even if she seemed about crying like a baby, and somehow I persuaded her to come to my cabin and now she's lying next to me... that's the weirdest thing of them all. My guest was exhausted and has fallen asleep immediately judging by her steady breathing that seems to follow the rhythm of the waves. I smile against my pillow before closing my eyes.
