"There is never a time or place for true love. It happens accidentally, in a heartbeat, in a single flashing, throbbing moment."
— Sarah Dessen"GOODNIGHT CLOVER."
Those two words had been ringing in her head for the past thirty minutes. After Weston left her sitting alone in the car, she watched him with her mouth open in shock. She didn't know why she was so bewildered by his change in demeanor, but the girl's mind couldn't believe it.
One moment he was acting sweet and kind, and the next he was slamming the door shut and leaving her by herself. Clover sat there until the light in the car went out whilst staring at the house in front of her. She was now sitting on her bed with a makeup wipe in hand.
Scrubbing her face with the cloth, she rubbed until the crimson red paint from her lipstick was no longer on. The messy array of colors covered the makeup wipe and once it was full, she tossed it in the trash bin.
Once her face was bare, Clover brushed her teeth and placed her knotted hair into a messy bun. She didn't have the energy to comb through it and would have to deal with it in the morning. Walking over to the closet, she pulled out a tank top along with fuzzy pajama pants. It felt good to get out of her tight clothes. Clover released a breath of relief went her breasts no longer felt suffocated by the lingerie top.
The glow emitting from the television lit up the room and allowed for her to see where she was walking. Clover undid the bed sheets and climbed inside. The cool feeling from the linen felt nice against her body.
Her head hit the pillow with such ease as it sunk down into the soft feathers. She had propped it up so that it was easier for her to watch the show that she was playing. Old reruns of the show Friends played softly and it relaxed her. She used to watch this growing up with her mother on nights when it was just them inside their dark mansion.
The sight of Monica and Chandler reminded her of that memory. A soft smile came across her lips.
Leaving her mother was one of the hardest things she's ever done. It wasn't an easy task, telling the one person in her life whom supported and took care of her, that she was leaving the state and moving away. The somber memory of her mother's watery eyes brought great sadness over the young girl. If only she had the guts and money to take her mother with her to begin a new life. Nothing like that was possible as long as her father was alive.
He would make their lives a miserable hell until the grave.
Clover's heart sunk deep into her chest. She couldn't fathom the idea of him being responsible for the death of Weston's parents. He wasn't a good man, but murder? That was something she didn't know he was capable of doing. It seems like his blackened soul was no longer present because he was completely ruthless with his actions.
