Chapter 5

Shadow POV

I walked into the room and saw Cream sitting in bed.

-good morning, Shadow..

-morning Cream... I... Need to talk to you...

-about what?

-Cream... You're a big girl now and I know you will understand...

She looked at me.

-Cream... Your mother... She is in a better place now... Better that earth, you won't see her but... She will protect you from over there...

I pointed upwards.

She teared up and looked at me.

-Shadow... Is she with Maria?

I completely froze at this.

I heard footsteps.

-Shadow, everything's okay, don't panic... She didn't mean to...

I got myself together and continued talking.

-yes, Cream... Vanilla is with Maria now...

She smiled.

-that... I know she is okay...

How could she be so understanding.

-you want to go out and walk this off?

She nodded and got dressed so we went out.

Me, Sonic and Cream were walking around three town. Until I saw the truck again.

-hey, hey, it's that truck!

-where?

I pointed at the direction of the truck and Sonic saw it.

It's called "I scream for ice cream!"

-you sure?

-yeah, but I don't know if the same man will be inside..

We approached the truck along with Cream. She was still crying. I felt really bad for her.

-hey!

I yelled at the man in the truck.

He seemed startled and looked at me panicking.

Sonic POV

The man looked scared for dear life.

-what did you put in the ice cream?

-wh-

-2 days ago, me and this girl were here, you gave us the dark chocolate flavor..

-oh, that...

Shadow was listening, tapping his foot impatiently.

Until someone called him.

-what?

-did you do it?

-I failed...

-can you stop failing for 4 seconds?

-just tell me what you want?

-kill. That. Child!

I assume Shadow heard the guy from the other side, because his striped were turning black.

I took his hand and looked him in the eyes.

-wait...

He came back to normal and looked at the man.

-explanation! Now!

Just as Shadow said that, the man pulled out a gun and tried to shoot Creams,but missed... And shot Shadow...than sped away.

-SHADOW!

I quickly bent down. He looked at me and that at Cream.

-I said I'll protect ya' didn't I?

Cream slowly nodded,crying still.

-Shadow-

-Sonic...

I stopped and looked at him in my arms.

-listen to me...

My ears perked up.

-you have to protect Cream...

-no, you will be okay!

I got up,Shadow still in my arms.

I picked up Cream and put her on my shoulders.

I sped to the hospital.

-Somebody! Anybody! I need help!

A nurse came running and saw the floor covered in blood from Shadows wound.

She took me to a room and told me to go out. A lot of other doctors came rushing in.

I waited for 3 hours. I heard a lot of metal banging and the heart monitor.

-please be okay, please be okay, please be okay...

Cream hugged me and looked at me.

-Is Shadow going to be okay?

-yes, Cream...

I hope so.

After another 2 hours a doctor came outside and I was in front of him in a matter of seconds.

-how is he?

-we successfully removed the billed but he lost a lot of blood... We need someone who can donate it-

-I can!

We turned around and saw Mephiles.

-Mephiles, what are you doing here?

-the whole shooting thing is on the news.. Me and Shadow hand the same type of blood.

-oh, yeah...

-come with me, sir..

Mephiles followed the doctor to a room. A nurse than came out. She looked so sorry when she saw me.

-you're been standing here for 5 hours?

-y-yes...

I sobbed out.

She smiled at me.

-it would be against the ruled to let oyu in but... Go inside...

I smiled back at the nurse and walked after her. I entered the room to see Shadow awake, watching TV.

He heard the door open and looked at me. His face lit up.

-Sonic!

-Shadow!

We hugged and I looked at him.

-how are you?

-I'm fine... My chest hurts a but bit it's okay...

-good..

-where's Cream?

-Silver came and picked her up so I can stay here..

He than put on a questioning face...

-how long have you been here?

-... 5 hours...

-what?!why!!

-becasue I love you and I couldn't stand not being here..

He signed.

-Sonic... The man in the truck...

-what with him?

-he's my ex G.U.N. Partner, but he was thrown out after not being so loyal... I yelled at him infrotn of his girlfriend and everyone else... He probably wants to hurt Cream because he somehow knows how much  I love her.

I saw a tear slip down his muzzle.

-and that means... He's after you too...!
