"They're up so early?""You can clearly tell how excited the two of them are honey, they've been waiting for this road-trip for a whole month now!" said my wife, Elouise.
"Well but I still have some undone work left, we can't start this early, its seven in the morning."
"It's alright, I still have to pack for lunch, we can start by noon. Freshen up, Breakfast's ready-"
The following hours go by with just me compiling a few of my office files, trying to get rid of the unwanted things. My life had gotten so jam packed that I could hardly spend time with my two kids and my wife anymore. The only way I could repay all of that lost "family time" is by taking a day off from my routine life. I found this amazing deal off the internet for a hotel reservation, by the beach with a beautiful four starred hotel that a couldn't resist it. I planned of taking them off for a nice little vacation, even though I know my job won't let me do it. But hey, who would dare to resist the beach? I was in that point of my life where all I needed was an escape from reality.
Packing did take a while, it was already afternoon till we hit the road, and since the place was really far, we had to make it there on time before it got too dark. Regardless, It was such a lovely day today, we stopped by for a min or two to click pictures with the setting sun in the background off the hill side. For a second there, I felt content. Content that I had achieved the ability of being happy. Happy that I had a family, two beautiful kids and a loving wife, even a stable job for that matter even though it's quite negatively exhilarating at times. I was grateful and fruitfully blessed.
It was getting darker as we drove across the hill side, I noticed how the sky was no longer clear. It was overcast with clouds full of horror. Soon enough, it began to rain. It started off calm, but then as we kept driving the rain drops hit the car so hard it almost felt as if a large amount of people were shooting at our car from a distance.
The kids were afraid, anyone would be. We were driving down an empty hill side road with no kind of lights to be found anywhere to prove the existence of life. There was a sudden shift of mood, where minutes ago my heart was beaming with joy and my stable mindset was replaced with some sort of heaviness in my chest, my shoulders felt heavy too, as if the devil himself was sitting on my back. I continued driving, who would even dare to stop in such a lonely atmosphere?
"DARN IT. Seriously? Right now? You have to be kidding me."
Our car slows down to a halt. This was one of the things I was hoping would not happen.
In the middle of nowhere,
with the rain crushing down like a storm.
My car does not seem to move an inch-
