Chapter 2: The Truth Will Out

As we drove away, I turned back and saw the dark outline of the three storied building I had called home for the past six years. I had truly found myself here in Paris. I met so many people that had changed my life, I would miss everything about Paris. Ladybug had defined my life and brought out the best of me, and I would carry those traits with me for the rest of my days.

It was unlikely that we would ever return to Paris, our duty was in China. Everything would change when we returned.

An hour later we were boarding the jet, and we're in the air. I looked out at the Parisian skyline, almost certain that it would be the last I would see of it. With that I closed my window and tried to sleep.

It didn't last long though, about an hour or two after I had fallen asleep I was again awake. I decided that I would begin writing the letter to Chat Noir. It needed to include everything, not just the things I wanted him to hear, but the things he needed to hear. And with that I began to write, the words flowing from my pen to the paper.

Dearest Chat Noir,

In this letter I am including everything that I haven't told you about myself, some of it is so private that only you will know about it. Please know that some of this information must not leave this letter.

First of all, you know me as the civilian Marinette Dupain-Cheng, and Ladybug, but there is another part to me. I am leaving for China because my family and I are a part of the royal family of China, and we have to go back so that I can continue my studies and training under the supervision of my tutors. Trust me, if I could stay and finish up my schooling in Paris I would, but as soon as I turn 18, I will be crowned Empress. Therefore, I must leave for China, because, as of now, I have less than two years until I am crowned.

I am going to be completely honest as well Chat, for the past few years I have been in love with someone else. His name is Adrien Agreste. He's been in class with me since just after we started being Ladybug and Chat Noir. Of course, most people know him as a model, just a pretty face on a billboard or magazine, but there is a lot more to him. But, over time I also developed feelings for you as well. Of course, now I have completely given my heart to you, but I needed you to know that there was a time where I was completely infatuated with him.

You are the only person who knows where I am going, and it must remain secret. I have told Alya Césaire that I am leaving, but she doesn't know why, or where I'm going. I worry that she might be akumatized after I leave, so please, if you can, keep an eye on her for me. She's my best friend, and I'd hate for something to happen to her.

As for akumas, I have left the fox and turtle miraculous in my room, so that you can use them freely. When you capture an akuma, put it in a jar and mail it to me along with your letters, so that I can purify it. We'll figure things out from there.

For now, that is all.

I signed it using the last words he had said to me, and fell asleep, waiting for us to finally land in China.
