Kenma was out on a long walk on the beach, forced on upon him by his mother. She said it was "beautiful weather" outside and that he "can't play games all summer". Needless to say, Kenma wasn't happy.
If Kuroo was here at least he could play volleyball, but his dad shipped him off to a summer camp in the mountains for the majority of the summer.
Kenma continued walking down the beach even after he had entered the public area, the smell of sunscreen and a cigarette burning filled his nose as he passed by a family, resting underneath an umbrella. Normally there would be a lot more people but it was a Wednesday so most people were either busy working or at daycare and summer camps.
Seagulls squawked loudly at another family closer to the water that made the mistake to feed the birds, an action that would only result in chaos and a big mess for them to clean up. There were also two guys on surfboards, waiting for the next good wave that'll hopefully carry them all the way to shore. The brunette must've said something funny because the silver-haired boy began laughing so hard he fell off his board, causing Kenma to giggle and look to his left where he saw a cute little ice cream shop not too far from him.
The ice cream shop was new to Kenma, or it had just been too long since he had gone down this way. He checked his pockets to see if he had any cash on him so he could get something but only found a few dollars and some loose change. Kenma decided to go in there anyway to see if they had anything $5.85 could buy. He walked up the white wooden steps of the shop.
There were four rocking chairs on the porch and a flashing sign on the window that read "open". The golden-eyed boy turned the handle and walked into the cool shop. The walls were painted a pretty light blue and the trim was a much louder pink. Booths lined the walls of the shop with a few tables in the middle.
"Welcome to Creamy Dreams!" a cheerful voice greeted him. The pudding-head wandered over to the counter and looked at the menu, everything was fairly cheap and he miraculously could afford a medium cup.
"Give me a moment please," Kenma told the sunshiny ginger behind the counter. He nodded but kept a smile as he went and found a scoop. The two-tone haired boy browsed the selection of ice cream before spotting one that was apple pie flavored.
"'Scuse me," he said to grab the worker's attention, "can I have the apple pie flavor in a medium cup?""Of course! Will that be all?"
"Yes," His smile could brighten anyone's day and the sound of his voice made Kenma want to come back more often, and maybe talk to the orange-haired employee some more. Kenma paid for his ice cream and left the nice little ice cream shop. But not without the face of the boy lingering in his mind.
Kenma enjoyed his ice cream as he walked back home but nothing could get his mind off the smiley redhead at the ice cream shop. not the hot sand under his feet, the sun beating down on him, or even the people around him. which ended up being a problem after he ran into two boys, a tall blonde and a shorter one with freckles and olive hair, making him flush and apologize profusely before continuing home.
"Didn't expect you to actually go for such a long walk," Kenma's mother chuckled.
"Yeah well, I stopped along the way," Kenma quickly answered before grabbing his phone from the table and running upstairs to his room.
When the two-tone haired boy got to his room he naturally plopped on his bed and went to text Kuroo. he had begun tapping out a text before remembering that his best friend is at camp and can't use his phone. His next choice would be Akaashi, a chill setter that he's hung out with a few times while Kuroo was wreaking havoc with Bokuto.
i just went to an icecream shop and there was this dude there w/ ginger hair and he was always smiling ans i cant get him out of my headd
Kenma closed his phone and stared up at the ceiling above him while he waited for a response. Normally he would play on his PSP or his switch but he still couldn't stop thinking of the boy at the ice cream shop. the way his hair swished when he turned around to grab a scoop and the smile he gave Kenma when he handed him his ice cream.
"UGHHH," he groaned as he pulled a pillow over his face. All these feelings made Kenma want to scream into a pillow. Kenma's only really liked one person, and they didn't feel the same back.
"Why would anyone like me anyway?" he thought to himself, "I mean I'm always playing video games and I'm so anti-social. There's really no reason for someone to like me."
BZZT BZZT his thoughts were interrupted by Akaashi texting him back.
Bokutos supervision: ooo kenma? a crush? have the pigs sprouted wings?
Kenma rolled his eyes as he read the text.

Bokutos supervision: sounds like a crush to me

Kenma turned off his phone and turned on his switch. This couldn't be a crush, he thought, could it?
