I stare at my door without emotion trying to process the news I just found out. I lean back on my bed and wince, forgetting about my cuts and bruises. How can he be dead? Who would murder him and why? I roll over to the side and look at my phone, my eyes widen and I sit up right away.
Dylan: Hey! My sister and I are coming to Chicago to explore. Is there a chance we can meet up? We'll be staying at the Home Run Inn Hotel.
I think about how far the hotel is and debate whether or not it's worth seeing him. I miss him more than anything but I do not want him to see me the way I am and accidentally find out about my gang. Then again he may get offended if I can't see him. I groan in frustration, not knowing what to do. I look back at the message while biting my bottom lip.
"Fuck," I mutter to myself
I guess I'll just take the risk. Come up with an excuse for my appearance and if I think about it, the hotel is at a safe distance. What's the worst that could happen. Right?
Sounds good, would I be able to stay with you guys?
Surprisingly, he texted back right away.
Dylan: Of course. Need to get away from the fam?
Yeah.. Thank you, when will you be there?
Dylan: In about a half hour
Oh wow I didn't know he meant today. How do I slip away? I turn my phone off and head to where I'm supposed to meet my soldiers. I introduced myself and told them to show no mercy and get rid of them all. They nod and run out the door. I stood still, now how can I get away. Maybe I can just slip away without them knowing. I head to my room to pack up my duffel bag. I heard a knock on my door, I panicked and shove my bag under the bed. After I'm sure it's hidden, I walk up to the door to see who it was.
"Hey, what are you up to?" Scarlett says as she walks in and hops on my bed
"Just, thinking, how 'bout you?" I ask as I sit on my chair
She shrugged, "Nothing, thought I'd drop by and check on you and your wounds,"
I rest my head in my hand, impatiently tapping my face, "Oh, I'm fine, they're getting better,"
"Well that's good," she goes silent for a minute, "Can you believe he's dead?" she whispers
I sigh, dropping my hand, "Honestly, no, I can't. It's weird,"
"Yeah, well I'm gonna go now, feel better," she smiles and walks away
I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding and locked my door again. I pulled the bag out to finish packing. Once I was done, I opened the door and looked both ways before leaving.
I'll be there in 20 minutes
Dylan: Great, we'll wait for you here then!
I put my phone away and discreetly sneak to my car. I toss the bag in the trunk and head to the hotel Dylan is staying at. I make it in 20 minutes and park my car as far as I possibly can and head in. Dylan and his sister Delilah are waiting for me in the lobby, when I see them, I greet them with a big hug. Dylan pulled away and his smile quickly faded when he looked at my face.
"What the hell happened to you, Leo?" he asks while holding my face
I shrug it off, "I'm okay, really, can I drop my bag off?" I change the subject
"Yeah," he said, sounding upset, "We'll talk about that later,"
They lead me to their room and I drop my bag off in a corner. I turned around, smiling at them, and I grabbed Dylan's hand. We walked out of the hotel to head to Navy Pier. All my worries disappear as I relax and start to have fun with them.
"So, how's everything with your dad?" Dylan asks to make conversation
My smile fades, but quickly reappears to not seem suspicious, "He's good, how're your parents?"
"Great, we just wanted a break from them," he chuckled, "We figured you would want a break too,"
"I did need one, thank you guys," I smile at them
"Not a problem, dude" Delilah smiles at me
Dylan squeezes my hand and I chuckle, squeezing it back.
"Navy Pier is beautiful, isn't it?" I say
The siblings nod and take pictures to capture its beauty. I look at my phone to see if I missed any messages, and surprisingly, I didn't. Since I didn't get messages, I put my phone away and focus on Dylan. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw one of the goons that jumped me and I started panicking.
"Hey, why don't we go to the museum? It's wonderful." I ask while dragging them that way
"Oh, well okay, if you want," Dylan chuckles
"Wait, but," Delilah stuttered, "Fine,"
I keep an eye on the goon without making it obvious. As soon as we were far enough, I start to relax and try to have fun with them.
"Wow, this is so cool!" Delilah exclaimed
"I know, right?" Dylan nudged his younger sister
Delilah looked at me, "Know any good bars around here? I could use a drink,"
I nod, "Yeah, over there," and we head towards it
I could really use a drink right now. We all sit at the bar and we order our drinks.
"Wow, it's really clean here," Delilah pointed out
"Yeah, it really is," I reply
Dylan takes a sip of his drink and leans on me, so I rest my head on his.
"I missed you, Dyl Pickle," I whisper
"I missed you too," he smiles
I stood up and grabbed his hand and led him to a quiet corner.
"We'll be back Lilah," I say over my shoulder
When we get to the corner, I smile softly at him, and pull him in for a passionate, meaningful kiss. He returns the kiss and brings his hand to my face. He pulled away and smiled at me before leaning in for a quick, soft kiss.
"I love you, and I really missed you," he says, leaning his forehead on mine
"I missed you too, and I love you," I say as I intertwine our fingers
We turned around to reunite with his sister, but I saw someone I didn't expect to see here.
"Scarlett,"
