IF JAMES SAID THAT CLASSES WERE GOING WELL THAT WOULD BE A LIE. Honestly, it felt like he had no idea what was going on all the time. He barely got into the classes he wanted to take because of his poor OWLs results and Mikey wasn't there in a few of them to help him.

James was sat in potions, next to a Hufflepuff girl who seemed to understand the subject more than he did but he was too afraid to ask. He didn't even know her name and he felt it was rude to ask her name when they had been sat together for two weeks and in the same school for over five years. So James silently prayed for Professor Clearwater to make any sense at all.

Nala was sat a bench in front of him, always asking questions and taking notes like she understood what was going on. He couldn't believe she was so smart and seemingly amazing. James struggled if it wasn't quidditch. She turned around in her seat when she had the chance and smiled at the girl James was next to.

"Ruby, do you have a spare quill? Mine broke again."

The Hufflepuff, Ruby apparently, nodded and reached into her bag. "Here, keep it."

Nala took it gratefully and turned back around. "Thanks girl."

Her name was Ruby, which James found useful. He wouldn't want to come off rude asking her for help if he didn't even know her name. He didn't want to ask her right away either as it could perhaps give away that he didn't know her name before and only just found out.

James hoped Mikey was having more fun in divination because potions was hell. He couldn't wait for charms; at least he had his best friend there. Potions was not fun at all and it just kept getting harder and harder. He regretted his life decision, half wanting to pull a Weasley and drop out.

____________

Charms with Mikey was always fun because James could actually understand the material when he was there to help him. The other boy didn't seem to have a problem with it either so he took it in stride.

He knew his best friend would help him with potions if he asked but he didn't take the class. James didn't want to put more pressure on him to learn the material just so he could understand it. Despite not wanting to, James knew he was going to have to ask Ruby or someone else in his class that understood more than he did. He just didn't know how.

"Do yo understand what we're supposed to be doing, J?" Mikey asked, drawing him out from his thoughts.

Truthfully, he had zoned out again and had no idea what was even going on in the lesson. "I completely zoned out." He admitted, slouching into his seat.

Mikey quickly forced him to sit upright. "Hey, hey, no! It's alright I know what you're like. It's pretty simple today, just read the next two chapters of the textbook and write some notes on it. Anything you don't understand, I'll help you with."

It seemed simple enough in theory but theory work was what James struggled with the most. He excelled in practical elements of most classes but when it came to putting quill to parchment he struggled to understand why. He hated feeling like an idiot which is why he never asked Aunt Hermione for help. He loved her, but at times she couldn't quite understand how people could struggle with concepts she found so simple.

"What does this section mean?" James whispered, pointing to a section of the book with a large paragraph.

Mikey sighed. "Yeah it took me a minute to get my head round that so I see why you're struggling." He lied. "So basically,"
