The flames raged around the field. The army watched soberly as their secret weapon went up in flames.

The plan had been to demoralize the enemy by placing a witch on a high platform in the center of the field. She shouted taunts and curses toward the rebels, ending each session by exposing her backside toward the holdouts.

The rebel commander, Hareward, could take no more and set the field aflame, witch and all.

As William the Conquerer watched his plan fail, one of the horsemen alongside the king stated the obvious.

"Good thing you didn't try that at Hastings."
