As Nathan and I headed back to my car, he seemed happy. I guess his little date had gone well after all. He had a little hop in his step and and a smile on his face. It gave me joy to see him like that.
I opened up the trunk to deposit my many bags that I acquired while at the mall. On our way home, I realized that my car was nearly out of gas. "Fuck!" I exclaimed while banging my hand on my steering wheel. "What's wrong? Are we out of gas?" Nathan asked. "Ya i think it will be enough to get us to the gas station ... hopefully. ''
Luckily, we ended up making it to the gas station, "Thank god we actually made it, imagine if we had to push the car along the road..." Nathan and I glanced at each other and shared a laugh. "No way we would've made it farther than two feet".
Once I finished filling up my gas tank, we started on our way home again. It was silent in the car so I figured it might be a good time to bring up this new girl I saw Nathan hanging out with. "So... how was your little date?" I asked with a smirk.
"It was actually pretty good we had fun" my brother replied. "Who is she? Like I'm not trying to be mean but she doesn't look like someone you would usually hangout with" I added.
"What's that supposed to mean?" he seemed a little offended. "I don't know, just like she seems more punk, like a skater girl" I said, trying not to make him mad. "Why does that matter and also, how do you even know what Nicole looks like, did you spy on us or something?" he was starting to raise his voice now. "No! I would never! I just saw you guys at the food court and also, her name is Nicole?" "Yeah" he replied shortly obviously done with this conversation.
I never meant to make him mad, I don't know why he got so defensive when I started asking about this Nicole girl. Whatever, its his life I shouldn't worry about it.
As soon as I stopped the car in our driveway, Nathan walked inside the house and up to his room without saying a word to me or my mom. I ate dinner and went to bed a bit early, I was tired from walking around the mall all day.
Before I went to sleep I received a message from Finn, I couldn't help but smile at the text as it read:
I hope you had a great day! You should come get coffee again sometime ;)
Time skip
A week has passed of me doing nothing but staying in my room, being bored and not knowing what to do with myself while the summer sun scorches the city outside my house. Now it was Saturday, and Noah's party was starting in an hour. Naturally I was still in sweatpants and a hoodie, reading a book under a blanket because I had no desire to leave my house. I was busy reading the Percy Jackson series for the upteenth time when my bedroom door burst open. The blanket that resided over my head was ripped off revealing Sophia, dress in hand and makeup bag tucked under her arm.
"Get up you lazy bum! You can't just stay in bed your whole life!" Sophia shouted, enthusiasm dripping off her lips. The only response she got was a grunt. "Amy, come on we are going to have so much fun at this party, aaaannndddd Finn is going to be there," she exclaimed, adding a wink at the end. "Ugh fine" I slowly sat up in my bed and mentally prepared myself for the extreme makeover that was about to take place.
After nearly two hours Sophia and I were finished getting ready, Sophia was wearing a black sparkly party dress and a beautiful makeup look to compliment it.
She is so gorgeous sometimes i wonder if she is actually a human and not an angel sent from heaven. I was wearing a forest green tank top that compliments my dark brown hair and a pair of black jeans that were tight at the waste but were baggy in the legs. I had paired a little black bag with the outfit too. I don't really like dresses so i was glad Sophia didn't make me wear one. My best friend had also done my makeup, nothing crazy just a little around my eyes to enhance their green hue.
By now Wyatt had shown up at my house and he was laying on my bed looking bored, "Are you guys finally ready to go to the party?". "Yes, Wyatt we can go now." I replied treating him like a child. "Hey its not my fault that you guys take like five hours to get ready!" We all laughed at his comment and headed downstairs to leave. "Bye mom!" I shouted to the kitchen, my mom walked out and saw us all dressed up and smiled, "You guys look amazing! Alright now, be safe and who is driving you guys home tonight?" "Wyatt is driving my car and it's alright if Sophia and Wyatt stay here tonight right?" I asked. "Yep that's fine, just be responsible" my mom said, "yes don't worry mom we will, I love you bye!" I responded while halfway out the door. My mom is pretty chill but just like any other parent, she wants safety first.
The three of us climbed into my car and started on our way to Noah's house. We were three blocks away when the cars started lining the sides of the roads, since we had been to some of Noah's parties, we knew that the parking options would continue to get more sparse the closer we got to his house. So, Wyatt pulled off to the side of the road and we walked the rest of the way.
"How does Noah even know all these people?" I said while observing the many cars parked around us. "He doesn't, I doubt he even knows half the people who show up to these parties, the door just stays open and the punch bowl stays full." Sophia responded matter of factly. "Ya and so does his house.." added Wyatt as we walked through the door.
The massive house was packed full of intoxicated teenagers not yet too drunk to stand but just tipsy enough to dance like maniacs. Instantly a was overwhelmed, "I'm going to go find the bathroom" I told Sophia and Wyatt as I started to walk away, my purse held close to my torso. I ventured up the stairs, I walked past people too busy with their partners lips to make way for me and stepped over lost articles of clothing and junk that littered the house. I reached the second of many floors and instantly spotted a corner that surprisingly wasn't occupied by anyone. I slid into the corner, my back leaning against the wall and mentally thanked myself for wearing something a bit comfortable.
I opened my purse and pulled out my book. I smiled to myself just thinking about what Sophia would say if she knew I had brought a book to a party. I flipped open the pages and was instantly immersed into the fantasy word from the novel. I wasn't sure how long I had been reading for when I was torn from the utopian land in my head.
"Amy? Hey Amy is that you?" I was confused at first but when my eyes located the person calling me I had to refrain from letting my jaw drop to the floor. It was Finn, his dark brown curls unruly yet styled at the same time and his choice of black jeans and a striped shirt caused something to flutter in my stomach. "H-hey Finn what's up?" I asked standing up from my corner trying to not look like a total dork. "Not much just got here, hey what book were you reading?" He asked. "Oh shit here it goes I'm officially classified as 'geeky nerd'" I thought to myself.
I didn't answer right away so he decided to look for himself. He stepped closer to me and peered at the cover of the book. "Oh Percy Jackson? Those books are amazing! Are you reading them for the first time?" He questioned. "Oh ha no I've read the series too many times to count" I laughed nervously.
"You wanna head downstairs? Maybe grab a drink or something?" he asked. To be honest I was surprised he was even talking to me and even more shocked at the fact that he wanted to hang out with me at this party. "uh ya sure but don't you have some friends to meet up with or something?" Surely he came here with some friends I thought to myself.
"No actually I came here alone" he said sheepishly, his gaze not meeting my eyes. "Oh ok let's go downstairs then" I said "But no drinks for me" I added holding up my plastic water bottle full of juice. I never really liked the idea of being intoxicated to the point where your memory is compromised.
"oh ya ok no problem" Finn said, a grin reappearing on his face. With no warning he grabbed my hand and led me downstairs at a dangerously quick pace and I was surprised I didn't trip over any of the people making out on the stairs. This is going to be an interesting night.
