Chapter 12

"Wanna see something, Ms. Winters?"

I looked up at him through my eyelashes. Harry was extremely tall compared to me, forcing me to look up to him just to gaze into his grassy green irises.

Suddenly I realized how fast this was going. My smile faltered. My stare hardened. His eyes searched my face for my previous emotion. Which was entirely unfortunate because I had hoped he wouldn't notice that I wasn't enjoying the moment.

"What's wrong?" His voice walked instead of when it skipped earlier.

"Nothing. I'm fine." My smile was put back up on show as if to prove to him I was okay. Everything was truly fine.

The absolute story of my life.

He withdrew his previous touch on my hip that I hardly noticed until he pulled away and I wished for nothing more but for him to put it back. His eyebrows creased. And his beautiful eyes squeezed shut. His head lowered and his posture looked painful. His jaw clenched. That hurt me more than it hurt him to be honest.

"Obviously, something's wrong. Or else you wouldn't have been so stupid to hurt yourself the way you did." I went to protest on my addiction being stupid when he rolled his tuxedo sleeves up along with his shirt to reveal scars.

"I'm stupid, too."

My eyes darted to his but he still had them closed as if hiding them from me.

I never was good at hide and seek.

I reached up and kissed each of his eyelids and down a trail to the corners of his lips. I kissed him with passion because he understood and I felt no other way to express to him that we will one day truly be fine.
