The first thing I notice is the dryness in my mouth. Second, the fact my pillow was moving. Or rather that it's not a pillow. I jolt up suddenly to find a very startled David. "You're awake!" He exclaims.
"What time is it?"
"Almost 1."
"Shut up! Damn it, I have shit to do." I sit up straight and my head whirls.
"I think you should take today off, in fact, I insist you take the day off."
"David, me being hungover is not an excuse. Did you drink last night? What time did you get up?"
"Oh, I've been awake a couple hours but didn't want to move you. Do you remember anything from last night?"
"A couple hours!" I relax back into bed with a huff, resting my head back onto David's chest. I try to think to last night and can't remember anything after my third drink. "I guess I don't, how much did I drink? Was I totally embarrassing? Please tell me you didn't film it."
"No you didn't actually drink that much, I mean I don't think you did."
"So what happened?" I remember talking to Shane, he was very attractive. I remember him buying my drinks. I remember him sliding my drink to me, with his hand over the glass. I remember checking the time, that it was later than I thought. I remember sitting on the ground? I remember David's worried face. I remember walking outside to the car. And I can't remember anything else.
"Oh shit, what happened?" I sat back up again fully, pulling my knees up to my chest.
"Natalie, I'm sorry. I think- I think that guy did something to your drink."
"Fuck." I drop my head to my knees. "Oh my God, I'm such an idiot."
"How on Earth does that make you an idiot?"
"I shouldn't have let him put his hand on my drink! I should have walked away, I should have just hung out with you guys."
"Zane spent all night talking to a girl and neither of them drugged each other."
"Ok well, I should have ju-"
"Natalie, what are you saying?" He laughed in a bitter way. "He shouldn't do things like that. He shouldn't assault women outside the bathrooms, my God I'm so glad I was walking by- I should have- I shouldn't have left you all night."
"Assault?" My voice was just above a whisper.
"Oh Nat," He came towards me and rested his hand on mine that was wrapped around my legs. "He was just- all your clothes were on! Mostly, I mean just- your dress was-" He gestured towards his chest vaguely. "He was kissing you and I knew it was you because I saw your shoes but I couldn't really see you he was in the way. I didn't even think, I just pulled him off of you. And man, when I saw you- I mean you were fine! Like you're ok, but I just freaked."
"What happened?"
"I told him I was taking you home and he tried to stop me but he didn't and I got you home. You really wanted pizza but you didn't really eat any. It's in the fridge, I could heat some up for us if you're hungry. Wait, sorry, I'm sorry. How are you feeling? Do you need anything? You must have a headache, I can get you some ibuprofen."
"I'm fine, I guess I'm thirsty." He reaches next to him and hands me a bottle of water from next to the bed. I drink most of it and fiddle with the cap. "I don't even feel hungover, like I really didn't drink that much."
