Mr. Jay had a long talk with me about my ability to smash through the wall like that. By the way he glared at me and pointed his finger, it felt like he was angry that I had the strength to do such a thing. But I was confused, so I didn't try to defend myself, because I had no idea how to do that. I had done what he told me to do.
By the time he finished speaking with me, I felt embarrassed about what I had done. He then ordered me to sit and wait there, then he left.
Now I am just sitting in his small office and stared down at my hands. They certainly didn't look like they could be capable of doing such damage, but here we are. A giant hole in the wall and my gym teacher is mad at me.
Why am I suddenly so good at getting in trouble?
The sound of voices approaching the door made my back straighten and tense up.
Then the door opened and Mr. Jay was there, with Skye Nova next to him.
"Thank you, Mr. Jay, but I will handle it from here," Skye said, closing the door in his face before he could get any words out.
She turns, and judging from the way her hair is messed up and her eyes were frantic, I'd say she was probably arguing with Mr. Jay about something.
"Miss Walker," Skye said, as she approached me. Her exasperation carried heavily in her voice. "I'm sorry about that. Mr. Jay can be a bit much sometimes."
"Am I in trouble, ma'am?" I ask, nervously. The last thing I need is my Mom to find out I put a hole in a wall at school on accident.
"No, no," she says, brushing away my question like it didn't even matter that I damaged her school pretty severely. "Don't worry about the hole. I'm already rounding up some people from the Royal Guard to help patch it up. I just wanted to speak with you for a moment about it is all."
"Oh, okay," I swallowed harshly and waited for her to start questioning. But I was sure I would not know anything.
Skye plants herself at the edge of the desk and gives me this look, like she's calculating me and I'm not sure what to make of it. "Alyssa, have you been... having strange dreams lately? Does the name Snow sound familiar to you?"
I frown and shake my head slowly. Those were not questions I had anticipated. What did dreams have to do with anything?
But my answer appears to have made Skye happy. She smiles big and wide at me, her hand going to her chest like her heart had been about to burst. "Thank goodness. I'm sure the wall was just beaten up is all. Yes, yes that is it."
"I'm confused," I say it without meaning to.
But Skye doesn't explain. She just waves her hand and then sets it down on my shoulder. "Don't worry, it's nothing. I'm just being paranoid. But listen, Alyssa, if you should have any dreams, please come find me and tell me about them."
"Uh, okay," not likely, I thought. What if I have a sex dream? I am not going to tell my principal about my sex dreams.
When Skye took me back to class, Mr. Jay made me sit out and for the rest of class, Mr. Jay glared at me and Skye looked uncomfortable.
I had no idea what was going on.
---
"So I heard you made Mr. Jay look like a fool," Taylor said when lunch came around. I was picking at my food, unable to find it in me to tell her otherwise. "I heard Skye came and spoke to you, too."
I shrugged. "Yeah. She said she thinks the wall was just beaten up and I was just the last person and happened to knock it down by accident. Mr. Jay didn't like me after that, I think."
