Ise wake up early like usual and take me clothes and cap to me bathroom. Ise slip outta me nightgown and into me clothes which consist of pants, a white button-up shoit which is always buttoned to the top botton, boots, a black cap and red suspenders. My sling shot sticks outta me back pocket.

When Ise go pack to da room, da bois are still asleep. Ise smile. Me bois are neva mornin' people.

Ise walk ova to Race's bunk and gently kiss his cheek. When he doesn't wake up, Ise shake him, and then shake da bed. He hates it when Ise do that.

"All right, all right, Ise up." He says instantly.

Ise smirk and move to Crutchie. Ise may not be as nice as him, but he's me best friend, odda then Race. He's the only one Ise don't annoy in the mornin'. He's too nice, and Ise might hoit his leg doin' it.

"Mornint' Crutchie." Ise whisper.

"Mornin', Jazzer. How'd ya sleep?" He asked me.

"Ise slept fine." Ise answered, nudging Snitch who sleeps in the bunk ova Crutchie. He always asks me that. Ise get nightmares, bad ones, about the refuge and being separated from Race eva since Ise came back wit him. But, lately, they have been progressing into more than nightmares, and happenin' durin' da day. When this happened it was like Ise was really there, not just remembering it.

Once Ise had waken up all da bois, Ise sat on Crutchie's bed. All of the bois slept in their shirts now that they knew that Ise like to come in in da mornin' and talk to them.

Suddenly, Ise hear singin'.

(Race): That's my cigar

(Snipeshooter): You'll steal another

(Blink): Hey, bummas we got work to do

(Specs): Since when did you become me modda?

(Crutchie): Ah, stop your bawlin'

(All): Hey, who asked you?

Ise watch as the boys begin to get ready for the day. Jack begins to shave what he would like to be a beard and moustache, while Crutchie asks for a new selling spot.

(Mush): Try Bottle Alley or da harbor

(Race): Try Central Park, it's guaranteed.

(Jack): Try any banker, bum, or barber

(Skittery): They almost all knows how to read

(Blink): I smell money

(Crutchie): You smell foul

(Mush): Met this goil last night

(Crutchie): Ah, move your elbow

(Race): Pass da towel

(Skittery): For a buck I might

(All): Ain't it a fine life, carrying the banner through it all?

A might fine life, carrying the banner tough and tall?

Every mornin', wese go what wese wishes,

Wese as free was fishes,

Sure beats washing dishes,

What a fine life, carrying the banner home free all!

(Jack):  It takes a smile as sweet as butter

(Crutchie): The kind that ladies can't resist
